They were better with me off the ice.
I would imagine the truth is somewhere between the two stories. Which side it's closer to, I don't know. Here's my guess as to what may have happened given my experiences at quite a few Sioux/Gopher games. For the purposes of this I will make the assumption that the accused is a Sioux fan as well (note: his allegiance has not been made public to the best of my knowledge).
Every Sioux/Gopher game ends the same way in the concourse. The winning side talks crap all the way to the parking lot. Note that most security personnel are not by the Northeast entrance...most of them are by the Southwest entrance, which is the student entrance. My guess is the victim and his brother were talking smack to the Gopher fans. The Gopher fans started to talk back and things get heated. A Gopher fan (friend of Chialkowski) places his hand on the victim's brother (whether a pat on the shoulder or a push). The victim jumps in to defend his brother, and Chialkowski jumps in to defend his friend. Since all we have for accounts of what happened are two completely opposite hearsay stories...I won't assign blame to either side.
I have been harrassed at every arena I've been to not named The Ralph or MacInnes. Every fan base has people who will talk smack to the opposing team (especially after a win). I have no problem with it as long as things don't get physical, which is the biggest reason why I will only talk smack to people I know, since they will know it's all in fun.
