Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Just because you want to throw your panties at him, doesn't mean the rest of us want to. :D

Ugh. Let me clarify. Jockstock rocks like Alice Cooper. Creepy and disgusting but somehow easy to listen to, even while your flesh crawls, a gory accident that you just have to gawk at etc...

And it was you guys who turned him from pariah to poster boy!:)

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Shhhh.....he's on a roll...

:D

I will give duey credit, he's true to his word. Several months ago he said he was done posting on GPL and he hasn't been back.

I had the same feeling a few weeks ago, I was at the MSU-M at SCSU game. :D

Alright...well, that was exciting. Since we got that outta the way.....let's talk some Gopher Hockey.

Whoever thinks Lucia should stay raise your hand.......ok, you guys can leave.

I'll keep it short and sweet.....I'm not saying that Lucia is a bad guy and certainly not a bad coach but whatever he's doing is not working and it's time for him to go. He's responsible for the condition of the program. If it's because kids left early (which I don't buy every program has that).....who recruited them? If it's the system, well then that's his fault too. I'm not saying he could control those things but nonetheless.....it's his fault. You don't like that then don't be the coach of a top D1 program.

I'm sure this has been used before but it's worth repeating.....If Florida missed a meaningful bowl game for 3 straight years how long does Urban Meyer get? It's a trick question.....it doesn't get that to that point.

See….the problem is Hockey fans are starting to become as complacent w/ mediocrity as the football and basketball fans and no disrespect to those programs but comparing the success of those programs to hockey is a slap in the face. And yes….I come from the school of “you’re 1st or your last” but what’s wrong w/ expecting that from this program….F the participation banners, this isn’t St. Cloud.

The bottom line under Lucia this team has become soft and passionless and that’s not the Gopher Hockey team that I cheer for…..

Now I will give Lucia credit….he has stepped up and changed his approach by going out and getting some gritty experienced blue collar guys that can muck it up w/ Serratore and Parenteau (I think those guys can go to the bar….legally, for those that work at channel 9)……………….and although it might not be too little, it’s definitely too late.

The only problem is $$$ and the U isn't going to spend it to get rid of Lucia this year IMO anyway. I do agree that the last 3 years have been terrible and not what Gopher Hockey should be, we should be playing this weekend at the X instead of at home playing with ourselves.

An Updated Story
Minn. bill aims to add alcohol to U of M football
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A Senate panel looks at undoing a law that led to an alcohol ban at TCF Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

State law currently requires the university to sell alcohol throughout the stadium or not at all. University regents voted to ban alcohol throughout the new stadium last year after the Legislature and Gov. Tim Pawlenty passed the law.

The proposal from Democratic Sen. Dan Sparks of Austin would repeal the all-or-nothing requirement. Instead, it would be up to the university to determine where in the stadium alcohol could be sold. Proceeds from alcohol sales would go to a scholarship fund for athletes.

A higher education spending committee considers the bill on Tuesday.

I don't know about this bill, but did anyone else want to smack the crap on of Nancy Pelosi when she was giving her speech the other day? Seriously what the hell is that half laugh half snort thing she does?... South Park should have had here in the episode where they had an awards show for the biggest dou*che in the galaxy. Socialism sure is fun.... move over France and Canada, here comes the US of A:rolleyes:

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

After signing with Vancoouver last week, Schroeder joined the Moose and was playing his first pro game on Sunday. He scored a power-play goal at 1:51 of the first period in the penalty- and fight-filled game, and then got another at 19:38 of the third period.

He had four shots on net and was a plus-3/

The Canucks are still quite high on him, even though they don't have a spot for him on their roster right now.

"He's a skilled player, I have seen him quite a bit," Canucks assistant GM Lorne Henning told RotoWorld.com. "He's certainly ready to take the next step. He's an electrifying player and he certainly has great vision and quickness. He sees the ice so well and makes plays."

The Moose nominated Schroeder for AHL Player of Week based on one game.

The 5-9, 180-pound Schroeder will earn $65,000-$70,000 per year while playing for the Moose, not quite the $900,000 per year salary he will receive if he is on the Canucks' roster. That's quite an incentrive to move up.

Schroeder tipped a point shot and converted a centring pass for his two goals.

"After the national anthem, it was kind of weird. You're a pro hockey player now, and I just wanted to go out there and have some fun," said Schroeder, according to a story in the Winnipeg Sun.

Schroeder said Sunday's game was pretty similar to a WCHA game against a big rival such as North Dakota or Wisconsin.

"Both teams are battling," Schroeder said. "The only difference is you can't fight in college. Fighting, that's new to me, and something you've got to get used to. But it's pretty similar in ways. At the pro level, though, guys understand the game very well, they know where to put the puck and they're just smart."
Read into that last sentence what you like.

As a sophomore, Schroeder never really caught fire this past season or got big goals in clutch situations.

If I was one of his now former teammates.... I would be ****ed off to high heaven........

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

He's right though. These guys he is playing with are pros, many have been for years. They've got the level of experience that many college players just don't have. I wouldn't read too much into that.

I know, but still if I was one of his teammates.... I would still be ****ed off. I think he left for the Wold Juniors did a great job and never really came back to play. He was just counting the days till he could get his money....

It wouldn't bother me as a teammate, but maybe that's just me.

I'd like to give the kid the benefit of the doubt in the post-WJC part of the season that he was giving it everything he had. There just wasn't much going on out there.

He was average throughout the first part of the year, looked outstanding in the WJC, and then looked average for the rest of the college hockey season. He goes and scores two goals his first game on a pro team. Certainly, the quality of the players around him make things a bit easier to make plays, but the quality of the opponent also makes it a bit more difficult.

To me, there is no doubt. He was just biding his time in MN this season.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Who did Jordan Schroeder have the honor of playing with him? Nobody, comes to mind.

True. Jordan is a very talented playmaker, but he was a different player this year because he didn't have a guy like Ryan Stoa on his line. The mono attack on Hoeffel was unfortunate timing too.

To me it sounds like he's very excited he got off to such a great start with the Moose (Who wouldn't? Congratulations to Jordan!) and is now teamed up with AHL quality players that he can work with. If I were a former Gopher teammate I wouldn't expect anything less from the AHL. These players are one step removed from NHL icetime.
