MN @ BSU: Wide-eyed Rookies Vs. Grisled Veterans!

Re: MN @ BSU: Wide-eyed Rookies Vs. Grisled Veterans!

If they make the F4, they'll draw BC again. :p
Good. You've got to beat anyone and everyone at the NCAAs to win a title. We either will or we won't, but I'm not going to worry about who it happens to be standing in our way.
Gotta love going back and forth with UND fans in a Minnesota/BSU game thread. :D
What good is a message board if you can't have some fun? :D

Re: MN @ BSU: Wide-eyed Rookies Vs. Grisled Veterans!

MN Played well until the 3rd Period on Saturday night at the Ralph, if they would have played a whole 60 we could be talking about a gopher sweep! I think this North Dakota team is good but they are very beatable, I would be very surprised if they make it back to St. Paul. I dont think they will make it out of their regional tournament to be honest with you, you guys think the GOphers are so terrible but they played with you for 5 periods talking the first game and going into the 3rd in your barn down by 1 goal! 1 more period of good hockey and we have 3-4 points that weekend, what does that say for your squad since you guys are so good? You out played a bad team 20 minutes the whole weekend at home, that sounds like a good squad to me, please! I hope BU knocks you out game 1 of the NCAA tourney then we will see what you have to say! OH yeah when was the last time you won a national championship? I believe the Gophers have 2 since than!
Would have could have should have  If a couple bounces went our way UND could have won the 2005 NC instead of DU. One bounce goes our way and UND wins the 2001 NC, not BC. It doesn't mean anything, because we didnt' win those games. So what's your point? :p

Small sample size. :p

Plus UND's last title happened when the field was 12 teams. It's easier to reach the F4 when you're a bye team that only has to win a game against Niagara to advance to the F4. :p

It's far more difficult to reach the F4 now than it was 10 years ago.

Gophers know that all too well. Minnesota has yet to reach a Frozen Four since the switch when they didn't have home ice advantage. North Dakota has done it three times. :p

Theoretically the team that would have gotten a bye in the past has a pretty easy first game. Minnesota should know all about that, right. (Holy Cross, cough cough) :p :D

I wouldn't call it a far more difficult path. A team that would have gotten a bye in the past has to win one more game now. But a lot of teams that didn't get byes in the 12-team field made it to the F4.

One of those UND trips to the F4 was hosted at REA, though. :p

And it's more difficult to win two games than to win one, regardless of opponent.

This is especially true with the upstart nature of the #4 seeds lately (RIT and BSU to name two).

You're better than this, come on. North Dakota has made the Frozen Four four times since the switch. One of those was when we hosted at REA. That is why I said we had done it three times. :p:D:D

I don't dispute that it is more difficult. I just wouldn't say it is far more difficult, which was your original statement.

And yeah, several #4 seeds have shown themselves to be deserving of their trips to the NT.

Re: MN @ BSU: Wide-eyed Rookies Vs. Grisled Veterans!

does anyone know of any tickets available for Saturday?

Last I saw, they only had singles available on ticketmaster. You could check Craigslist, as there have been several for sale there the last few days.

Sorry, I'm too distracted by beavers to make coherent arguments these days. :( :p

Re: MN @ BSU: Wide-eyed Rookies Vs. Grisled Veterans!

Thanks! Of North Dakota's 7 National Championships, 5 came when they won the Regular Season Title. Keep in mind, there was no league play in '59 when they won it all as well.

Here are some other fun stats about UND and winning the league...
- They make the Frozen Four over 70% of the time.
- They play for the National Championship nearly 60% of the time
- They win the title over 35% of the time

What about if they also win the WCHA Tournament title along with the Regular Season title?
- They make the Frozen Four every time
- They play for the National Championship 80% of the time
- They win the titles 60% of the time
- They win over 75% of their NCAA Tournament games

I like our chances.
Congratulations on your clever use of UND selection bias and statistical masturbation.:D How many WCHA teams in the last 30 years have won both the MacNaughton and an NCAA championship (including shared honors, but not including the Broadmoor)? I believe the number is 8 (three shared). How many in the last decade? The number is 1 (shared). How many NCs were won in the three seasons UND won the MacNaughton during the last decade? Zero. Does that sound like a statistical pattern of blessing or curse to you?

Most avid college hockey fans would likely agree that the MacNaughton Cup has inherently retained an iconic status and significance over the years as a symbolic representation of the WCHA and college hockey's storied history. However, some fans would argue that it has somewhat lost its prominence and popularity in the wake of the fan favorite playoff frenzy of the Broadmoor Trophy, which incidentally has been statistically more constant and symbiotic to the acquisition of an NC over the same 30 years (approximately 30%).

In the last three decades WCHA teams that won both the Mac and NC has dropped 89%. Based upon the negative correlation of the Mac and NC, we could assume that winning the Mac may 1) have a phenomenological beguiling effect upon a team's efforts towards winning an NC, and 2) is not indicative of a team’s playoff ability and readiness to win an NC. Realistically, capturing an NCAA D1 Men's Hockey National Championship is the only thing fans (and players, coaches and ADs) remember as the ultimate measure of success...period.

It's far more difficult to reach the F4 now than it was 10 years ago.

I think you're right on here Bak. In regards to the WCHA, there has been a consistent drop in teams winning the Mac and/or BM and a national championship over the last 40 years that I would speculate reflects 1) an increase in the number of participating teams, and 2) increased parity and talent throughout the NCAA.

Re: MN @ BSU: Wide-eyed Rookies Vs. Grisled Veterans!

so anyways... can you drink up at that new rink in bemidji?? will be heading there this weekend to get some beavers :-)

Re: MN @ BSU: Wide-eyed Rookies Vs. Grisled Veterans!

It really is pretty ****ing pathetic how MN starts putting some wins together, and right on cue in come the UND trolls.

You'd think they'd have a MacNaughton to celebrate/discuss.
Apparently some things are more important.

That pretty much implies the Gophers will make the Frozen 4 this year because of the home ice since they only do well on home ice. Thanks for that. :)

Its called obsession. Why would you expect a team to enjoy their own successes when they can troll a BSU/UM thread and trash talk the Gophers?
