MLB 2022: Playing Ball, But Is Anyone Still Watching?

The thing is, this has come under two different managers and three different hitting coaches. We aren't unduly crowding the plate. It's... weird.

I think it's SSS. I see no reason why we'd be headhunted -- it's not retaliatory (our pitchers' HBP are average) and it's not an attempt to neutralize us (we've been meh during most of the period).

Gibson would kill any hitter active today. He would see the body armor and think, "challenge accepted."

Maybe they're just not good at dodging inside pitches. Might be time for the manager to walk into the clubhouse with his tool box. "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball."

Welp, that was interesting.

Top of the ninth in Queens, Mets up 10-4. Same Mets pitcher who hit a guy that started the "brawl" (group grope) last week, after all those Met HBP. Lindor got drilled last inning. So Lopez brings it up and in twice and the umps meet and decide to issue a warning.

Two outs go by... and then Lopez hits a guy.

And stays in.

Next hitter takes him deep and the Mets win it 10-6 (and win their 7th series to start the season).

But why issue a warning if you're not going to toss a guy after a HBP?

BTW, Scherzer is 4-0 and has not lost in his last 24 starts.

Reds 3-19 start is tied for the second worst 22 game start in baseball's modern era (post-1900). Only the 1988 Baltimore Orioles had a worse 22 game start, when they were 1-21.

The Reds are clearly like the car wreck you don't want to see but can't turn away from.

Their schedule does get a little easier here. Eight games against the Pirates the next two weeks. Of course that’s coupled with six against the Brewers, three of which start tonight, so they could roll into that first PIT series at 3-22.

The crazy thing is they had the same start in 2018 going 3-18 to start the season. Turned it back around and didn’t even lose 100 games, which is probably why it was mostly forgotten.

Mets designate Robinson Cano for assignment

Anyone need an over-the-hill middle infielder. Maybe he can catch on as a DH. If he's cheap enough there will be interest I am sure.
