MLB 2020: We'll Play Ball, I Guess.

Yermin Mercedes of the White Sox launched 400ft homer off a 40mph pitch from a position player on a 3-0 count two days ago. La Russa came out against him, saying “he made a mistake. There will be a consequence he has to endure here within our family.”

Last night, the Twins threw behind him. It didn’t look entirely intentional, but the umps tossed the pitcher anyway. Post game La Russa said he had no issue with how Minnesota handled things, with the caveat that he didn’t think it was intentional.

Still, he’s hanging his guy out to dry again. This is like the third “baseball culture” incident between La Russa and his team this year. I’d say it could cause some problems, but they’re in the AL Central. They might be able to take the division with 85 wins.

Twins have Bal, KC, Bal, KC. Sweep those 4 series and its above .500! 30-29.

Wishful thinking, and they get NYY, Hou right after.

< slow clap >

Since I posted that we've lost another starting pitcher and the CF (Fargas, hurt shoulder running into wall) who replaced the CF (Almora, hamstring) who replaced the CF (Pillar, hit in the face and needed reconstructive surgery) who replaced our starting CF (Nimmo, nerve damage in hand exacerbated by swing).

We're starting our #5 CF. We do not have a backup.

It's not just that we have 18 guys on the IL. Half of them are expected to remain on it through at least June. Only four (deGrom, Lugo, Davis, Alonso) are expected back in the next 2 weeks, so that should give us time to put more on it.

Oh. And we're in first.

New Era releases a kitschy hat collection for "local market" fans, gets promptly skewered for it on Twitter.

Interesting things I noticed: Chicago Cubs and White Sox forget the two key area codes for their demographics (Northwest Suburbs, far west and southwest Suburbs) yet St. Louis Metro, central Illinois, and southern Illinois were included.

Minnesota Twins have every Minnesota area code on their hats.

Detroit has Wayne County, and thats it.

Kansas City has zero Missouri area codes, the state they actually play in. Has every Kansas area code listed instead.

Pittsburgh doesn't have an area code on their hat.

What the hell is the image on the front of the Twins hat? A golf course?

That or a chain of lakes?

I didnt even realize until clicking the other photos that there is a generic clip art cheeseburger on the back (Jucy Lucy?) And the 1987 WS logo on the right ('91 didn't happen? Notify the Braves).

I just noticed that the Tampa Bay Rays hat has the area code for Tampa on it... the team/stadium is in St. Petersburg, a completely different area code..

It's Brownie Lake, Cedar Lake, Lake of the Isles, and Bde Maka Ska (formerly Lake Calhoun). Why they left out Harriet is anyone's guess. They are popular lakes in southwest MPLS. (Well, except for Brownie. Really just a drainage pond honestly.)

I can't even find the Mets one. It shoots to some other site with generic garbage stuff like our camo hats.
