Today is the 50th anniversary of Gaylord Perry's first MLB home run.

It fulfilled the prophecy of Alvin Dark who reportedly once said, "They'll put a man on the moon before he [Perry] hits a home run."

Gutsy win by the A's tonight over the Twins. Khrush has been slumping hard since his extension, but that clutch hit should be a nice boost.

It's been a great series of ball between the A's and Twins this weekend. Very close games.

With 11 days left until the trade deadline do the Giants trade Bumgarner? They could keep him and present a qualifying offer(Giants get draft pick(s) from the team that signs him)and try to extend his contract during the off season or trade him. The Red Sox and Twins were scouting him Friday night and the Yankees are always a possibility to swoop in at the last minute. It's not like SF and a couple of teams are in the hunt for the WC spots. Not counting the 3 division leaders or Miami every other team in the NL is within reach.

Gotta wonder if there’s gonna be anyone in Seattle for today’s game, everyone seems to be in Cooperstown for Edgar Martinez.

His numbers aren't a whole lot different than Don Drysdale's. DD has about 700 more innings, but only about 300 strikeouts more. However, WHIP and WAR are pretty darn close, and Halladay's ERA+ (comparison of his ERA to the league average) is higher.
