Lots of smoke to this story about the Astros stealing signs...

It's interesting to hear that everyone does it (which is no surprise), it's a matter on HOW they do it. Sometimes it's legal, sometimes it's not. Yay technology.

Not an Astros fan and really couldn't care less if they were using technology to steal signs

It's against the rules, though. Cannot use technology to benefit from that. Old school style (outfielders/guy on 2nd) is okay.

Exactly. One is against the rules. One is not. Huge difference.

BTW, I remember reading back in his playing days, that many players said A-Rod was a master at stealing signs when he was on second.

Re: MLB 2019 and Beyond: Something Something Three True Outcomes....

MLB Network was discussing it last night, I bust out laughing when Bill Ripken discussed the White Sox sign stealing in the 80's. It was so stupidly simple. I looked up the details and he was remembering slightly wrong.

Apparently the White Sox had a certain bulb on the scoreboard wired up to a light switch and an intern watching the center field camera feed on TV. When the catcher would go through the signs, and a fastball or breaking ball was signaled, the kid would flip the bulb on. Any other pitch, no bulb. Players were made aware of where on the scoreboard the "faulty" bulb was located.

Good lord is the media over the top on sign stealing. I would guess the vast majority of fans dont care.

It's part of the arms race. Measures and counter-measures. I suspect more than half the teams in MLB do it at home.

Keith Hernandez always says sign stealing would have f-cked with his head more than it was worth.

It's only a matter of time before pitchers and catchers have an ear piece and have the pitches radioed into them....

And the hitters have an implant and hack the signals...

Oh. My. God. Between them and the Brewers, the late 70's and early 80's are back. :D

The two two-game series are going to be amazing. :D
