MLB 2019 and Beyond: Something Something Three True Outcomes....

Mariners history part 4.

YOU HAD DAVID ORTIZ AND YOU GAVE HIM AWAY?!

Also, I want Jon Bois narrating my biography.

The Timber Rattlers were stupidly stacked with talent. They were the Appleton Foxes when A-Rod played for them, changing their name to the Timber Rattlers when they moved to the new ballpark in 1995. If I go digging, I might have something signed by Ortiz (then Arias) at home. Don't forget he played five years for the Twins, and they let him walk because they couldn't afford to pay him two mil.

I second having my life narrated by Jon Bois.

Also, he absolutely nails how rooting for this team went during the '90s. Maybe its the shared life experience we all have of rooting for the M's along side our favorite team.

As a fan of an NL Central team (albeit brand new to the league and division that year), I absolutely saw the HR chase developing, and my stomach sank then when Sosa and McGwire caught and passed Griffey that August. And my stomach sank again when he said "no one saw this coming," because I knew *exactly* where it was headed. This goddammed series is making me feel things I thought were long buried. :p Goddammit. The M's meant more to me than I realized then.

Also. Holy sh**, the plot twist at the end of the episode. I never knew the connection.

So, while I did post this somewhat sarcastically, I've been keeping up with it when I can. Playing in the morning means there's a couple innings to catch before work or a game on when waking up on the weekend.

I believe at least three of the four CPBL teams now have English language broadcasts across Twitter/Twitch.

Bidding ends tonight at Midnight (Eastern). Current winning bid at just over $50k. As others had previously mentioned, the Twins need to snatch this up.

Someone with a Twitter or Facebook account should tweet that at them.

Lame auction... lotta stuff got pulled back due to owner overvaluing his product

Went for $190k, which was towards the higher end of what I thought (100-200). Hopefully the Twins were able to pick it up.

In reading the description, I was a bit surprised to see that Kirk Gibson's jersey from Game 1 of the '88 World Series went for $303k

I was also a bit surprised to see the '86 Puckett game worn jersey ($5,850) outdraw the '98 Jeter game worn jersey ($4,562) or the '93-95 Jeter minor league game worn jersey ($3,426).

The Gibson home run was probably every bit as iconic as Puckett's, and a lot of silly money floating around LA. Plus, Gibson's jersey was probably pretty clean since he just sat in the locker room the whole game. :D

With respect to the Puckett and Jeter game worns, I just wonder if there aren't a lot more of the Jeter jerseys floating around in the marketplace.

Nationally, the Gibson home run is more iconic than Puckett's, and for the casual baseball fan, I could see why it would go for more. That being said, Puckett's jersey is far more historically significant because: (1) Puckett is a hall-of-famer (first ballot); (2) Puckett's home run was in an elimination game (although Gibson's was the classic, down by 1, one man on, two out in the bottom of the ninth that kids grow up dreaming about); (3) Puckett had a tremendous Game 6 beyond the home run, coming a double shy of the cycle, 3 RBIs, 2 Rs, and making a tremendous catch against the glass to save a run; and (4) Puckett is synonymous with Twins baseball and a face of the franchise. You're probably right though as it pertains to silly LA money. I would estimate that if the situations had been different, and Puckett was an LA superstar (puke) and kept his team alive with a game-winner in dramatic fashion in a series where they eventually won it all, it could top $500k.

With respect to the Puckett and Jeter game worns, I just wonder if there aren't a lot more of the Jeter jerseys floating around in the marketplace.

Perhaps. I have no idea how many Jeter game worn jerseys are floating around. I also have no idea how many Puckett game worn jerseys are floating around. However, I was surprised because: (1) Jeter's was from the '98 season where the Yankees won it all, while Puckett's was from the '86 season where the Twins finished 20 games under .500; (2) New York v. Minnesota markets; and (3) I can't imagine there are too many Jeter game worn minor league jerseys floating around.

Re: MLB 2019 and Beyond: Something Something Three True Outcomes....

You don't recall Johan Santana dominating the Mets and causing Blyleven to get his hair cut.

Then Santana going to the Mets and throwing their first * no hitter?

Who are the Mets?

I recall Johan dominating some minor league team causing Burt to get the hair cut. :p:D:D

Re: MLB 2019 and Beyond: Something Something Three True Outcomes....

All I remember about the Mets is "The Crying Game," the long drought between Mets home runs where the operator forgot to activate the motorized apple in center field after a Mets HR, the operator activating the apple after an *opposing team* HR, and their unhealthy obsession for over a decade in pointing out that the Braves third baseman named Larry, was in fact named Larry. :D

Oh, and their Mascot flipped off the crowd with his muppet hand and produced the single greatest meme image to hand wave away that they'll "take care of the situation." :D
