Take a generic player. He plays a full 162 game season.

In every game, he simply goes 2 for 5 with a single and a home run. Every game for 162 games.

Final line: .400/.400/1.000, 162 HR, Lord knows how many RBIs, Triple Crown in the bag, lock for MVP, greatest offensive season of all time.

He still has a lower OPS than '04 Bonds (1.422.)

2 of them are established players. Torreyes is no surprise that you havent heard of him.

C.J. Cron played for LAA and TB. 30 HR, 74 RBI last season.

Johnathan Schoop played with BAL and MIL.

Ronald Torreyes has 500 career AB between LAD and NYY.

This will upset some cranky old people, but is probably correct. The perfectly identical delivery in the two pitch overlay is nuts.

I'm a cranky old people but I agree 100%. I'd like to see how it'd go with some of the pure hitters of yesteryear like Cobb, Anson, Wagner, etc.

It's a stupid argument. Babe Ruth was a sign of his times and over time athletes have become better conditioned, better trained, faster and stronger on average. As good as Jim Brown was in his day DL, LBs and DBs are all faster and stronger than they were in the 60's. Would he have dominated as much today as he did then? How about Wilt going up against the size and strength of today's average NBA player?

The size argument is invalid. Manute Bol should have been way better, same with Yao Ming. Spud Webb destroyed the size thing, also. Wilt was way ahead of his time in skill.

That being said, with baseball, agree: the conditioning, talent pool, etc etc does play into everything. Bartolo Colon is the exception in the conditioning. ;) Maybe Captain Cheeseburger Sabathia.

Size is just one component and there will always be exceptions. Wilt was a head of his time and he wouldn't put up 100 today.

This, and also agree with Slap. I doubt anyone would put up 80 today (IIRC, I thought someone hit 70 a couple years ago).
