MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

Re: MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

I don't care about the call, but that slide was dirty and cheap. And I use the word "slide" VERY loosely.

Re: MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

So I'm conflicted on the cleanness of the slide itself, but how was Utley called safe of review? Isn't that the definition of the neighborhood play?

The explanation that was given is that Murphy's throw pulled Tejada from the bag. Under that condition, apparently MLB does not apply the neighborhood play. But this was news to everyone who analyzed it, as if MLB had made that proviso up on the spot.

To me it looks like he has the ball and steps on second. Am I missing something? It's a force-out play right? Did his foot miss the bag?

Re: MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

Lots going on in that Mets/Dodgers series!

I think replay should not be able to overturn neighborhood plays at second. That was not the intent of replay. If the second baseman is within a foot or two it should remain an out. Tejada's foot was 1 cm from the bag if that as he crossed it to catch that ball. So even if the throw did pull him away, he was close enough.

As far as the slide, it was clearly not a slide. If you start sliding when even with 2B, then your only intention is to hit the infielder. He deserves the suspension, and his agent saying it was outrageous is just agent talk. Billy Ripken had the same thought I did after seeing that play. There should be some kind of mark about 5 feet from the second base bag. If you don't start your slide at or near that line it should be considered illegal.

I'd guess that Harvey pegs someone early in game 3, unless the umps decide to stop it by issuing a warning before the game starts. In that case there will be a delay until later in the game. But, i'd nearly guarantee a Dodger is getting hit.

Like the Cubs chances today for obvious reasons. ;)

btw, what's up with Mike Fiers? Is he not in the postseason rotation? We haven't seen him yet, and I can't imagine he'd pitch in a potential Game 5.

You don't need 4 starters in a 5 game series. So he's in the bullpen I'd assume. Although as I say that HOU is using 4, and KC is coming back with Ventura.

True, but I don't think we've seen him in the bullpen, either.

You do unless you start your game 1 starter on short rest in Game 4. And you need to be able to trust your game 2 starter in a game 5 scenario.

Game 1
Game 2
Off day
Game 3
Game 4
Off day
Game 5

Dipstick Harold Reynolds' comment last night Jays fans in the seats in Texas couldn't catch foul balls because they didn’t grow up watching baseball has launched a Twitter barrage from my fellow countrymen and women, including this guy

Game 4 is far more important in the series than 5 is. You are either up 2-1 with a chance to close out, or down 2-1 with a chance to be eliminated. Either way, I want my #1 pitching game 4.

In a 1 game winner take all (game 5/7) situation anything could happen and everyone is available to pitch. So starting your #2 isn't that big of a deal.

No it isn't. If you're up 2-1, you have the luxury of not starting your game one starter on short rest and saving him for game five on an extra day's rest.

If you're down 2-1, you gotta win both anyway so both are equally important.

It's a judgment call either way, and depends on how your rotation is set (no way the Cubs use Lester tomorrow and Hendricks for game 5, for instance), but there's no way game 4 is more important.

Re: MLB 2015 - Meet the new boss, same as the old boss!

If I'm up 2-1 I'm not sending out my 4th starter in hopes that I can win. I'm trying to close out the series.

If you are planning for game 5 up 2-1 then you're planning to fail.

I think unofan is a Cubs fan, so I can understand his pessimistic series planning. ;)

If your fourth starter on a week's rest is better than your game one starter on short rest, absolutely you send him out there. Some pitchers absolutely suck if you send them out there off schedule. Sending your ace out there on short rest looks like you're conceding a loss in Game 5.

If you're up 2-1, you give yourself the best shot at winning one more game, whether it's in 4 or 5.

Case in point.....David Price in game 1 against the Rangers after 11 days between starts. Simulated games just aren't the same

Why is Angel Hernandez working a playoff game?
