MLB 2015-16: Grays Sports Almanac Edition

Re: MLB 2015-16: Grays Sports Almanac Edition

Having the trophy presentation in the locker room instead of on the field is ridiculous.

It's New York. If you have it on the field, a) it will be in front of a completely vacant and eerie stadium that looks like it's waiting for Snake Plissken to drop in, or b) you'll be holding it in front of a bunch of bitter Mets fans who just watched their team cough up another lead to blow this Series, and as a consequence you'll just be bleeping out a bunch of F-bombs.

Rec'd for Escape from New York reference. However as a bitter Mets fan with a longshoreman's vocabulary I would have politely applauded the trophy ceremony. It's what you do -- it helps to ennoble the event. I believe most fans would do the same, whether in KC or NYC, because after all all fans bases are exactly the same.

Except the Braves'. F-ck those guys.

Re: MLB 2015-16: Grays Sports Almanac Edition

One thing I'll always be grateful to the the Yankees for  is that in 2004, they left the stadium lights on after game 7 of the ALCS and let the Red Sox celebrate on the field long after the crowd was gone. That was only the ALCS, not the World Series. That was probably the end of the "____ suck" era and the beginning of an era of civility. After that, one or both teams sucked, and the Yankees that retired were widely respected.

So it's Drew Butera who is forever immortalized with Wade Davis in the initial celebration shots. 20 years from now, Royals fans will look at that image and fondly remember Butera's World Series MVP performance.

If Bettman can do it with 90% of Vancouver wanting to kill him and 30 seconds from rioting I think MLB can handle some bitter Mets fans...

Yeah, I was probably too harsh on the New York fans. Actually the one Met's game that I saw in person, many, many years ago, was when I took my 10 year old nephew to Shea Stadium. A Met's pitcher whose name I've long since forgotten threw a batting practice ball up to my nephew, creating a memory neither of us will forget.

Re: MLB 2015-16: Grays Sports Almanac Edition

Greinke opted out of his contract and is now a free agent.

Let's start the bidding at eleventy trillion.

Re: MLB 2015-16: Grays Sports Almanac Edition

So Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs then.

I'm not sure I see Zack being comfortable under the microscope in Boston or NY. Cubs could probably afford him short-term right now, since they don't need to throw money at a lot of their young guys quite yet, and they don't need a ton of help over what they had last year. That would really, really suck for the rest of the division. I'd guess either Cubs or back to LA. It will be interesting to read the speculation.

supposedly the Giants have interest as well.

oh man. I imagine they're drooling at the thought of not only LA without Greinke, but WITH them. That'd be a fantastic move for them. Plus it's an even year. ;) Not sure what their financial situation is, though, but they may not care if they think he'll vault them over LA.

Giants have the fifth-highest payroll in the league at $172 million. They could throw money at Greinke.

Anybody see the pic of the Mets fan with the Mets World Series 2015 tattoo? If not, it can be found here.

His biggest regret should be going to a really bad artist as that thing does not line up at all. The right branch of the Y is all messed up, and the left side is only a little better.

I just don't understand the people that do this. I mean, I'm probably more superstitious than most, but I could never do something so brazen as to declare my team the champion of anything before the 27th out (or 60th minute of game 7, or whatever). That said, it seems after every championship, be it the SCF, the Super Bowl, or the World Series, we see these people who have tattoos that will only make sense to the people in Africa who just got a big shipment of t-shirts and hats.
