MLB 2015-16: Grays Sports Almanac Edition

Re: MLB 2015-16: Grays Sports Almanac Edition

I'll say it. Fark the Mets.

I haven't hated then this much since the Cubs left the NL East, but I hope they lose 30-0 with every pitcher getting hurt.

Stay classy...

I can understand why the '86 team was hated -- after all, they hated each other. :) But if you hate this team you either have NYC Derangement Syndrome or you're a Dodgers or Cubs fan. This team (except for the owners) is actually likable.

OK, now it's time for the Mets to win a few (ideally, 3).

Blowing game one is looking pretty big right now. I know the Royals are a fun team to watch because I'm admiring them even as they take us apart. Jacob getting torched was a bizarre thing to watch -- his secondaries weren't great but for the most part he did have good stuff and good command, but that beserker-on-speed style that KC plays either got in his head or simply didn't allow him to sequence well.

Game 3 is obviously must win. Thor better bring Mjölnir.

Re: MLB 2015-16: Grays Sports Almanac Edition

D'Arnaud is too twitchy at the plate. Hard to watch him bat.

It's his thing. He's got like 4 simultaneous timing mechanisms and they all have to work exactly right. Needless to say, he has a lot of cold streaks. It's frustrating as hell because he's got a great stroke and he's a smart hitter, but it would be hard to design a worse handicap than the one he imposes on himself.

Sandy Alderson throwing Carlos Gomez under the bus makes me dislike them. Not that I'm upset the trade didn't happen, because I like the trade that DID happen more (as I'm sure the Mets do), but it was handled very poorly and he should not have taken it out on Gomez in the media.

Have you seen the logo I have next to my name for the last 10 years?

I understand that. I'm just saying a call to hate watch the Mets is probably not going to be as effective with these guys as it was with the '86 team, who were a bunch of brash, unrepentant bastids. This team is, dare I say it, laudable, and has loads of touching / inspirational stories to it (deGrom, Matz, Flores, Murphy, Wright, Uribe, Cespedes, Tejada, etc.). And they actually do play a really fun brand of baseball -- it just hasn't shown up in the Series, yet.

Yeah, and the Cubs never showed up last series, so I'm fine if the Mets continue to blow it, too.

I've never said I'm above schadenfruede.

I follow the Mets very (obsessively?) closely and I have to say I have zero recollection of this. I'm not saying it didn't happen; just saying that Flores' homerun 48 hours later completely eliminated all other narratives involving The Trade That Wasn't as far as Mets fans were concerned, and Gomez hasn't come up again.

Thing is, I don't think we're blowing it, I think the Royals are outwitting, outlasting, and outplaying us. The Mets had a plan how to pitch to the Cubs and it worked. The Royals had a plan how to hit against us and so far it's working. The only Cub who one could say "blew it" was Schwarber, and even there -- you know what you're getting.

The whole second half of this season has been a gift from the heavens. I hope we have four wins left in us, but even if we don't I have no ill feelings towards anybody. I don't even hate Chase Utley -- we responded in the most effective way possible to that, we beat them.

8th head coach since 2010. Gee. I wonder why they don't win.

Multiple championships in the 23 seasons of the franchise. How many other teams have 2+ titles since 1993? Yankees, Giants, Red Sox, Cardinals.
