MLB 2014: I paid the $20 mil posting fee for the right to start this thread

If someone like Maddon comes calling, you apologize to your current manager and hire Maddon. This guy has a proven track record of winning without management support or fan support. Imagine what he can do with resources. If management stays out of his way, the cubs will be very good.

You know you're tatalking about the cubs right? They could have Connie Mack with his suit standing in the dugout and they'd still be losers. Loveable, but losers.

Re: MLB 2014: I paid the $20 mil posting fee for the right to start this thread

Molitor to Twins???
Well, he struggled with the Blue Jays last season, only batting .270 this season as a DH, but he did knock in 15 home runs. He could be serviceable for the Twins but I don't think he'll help them get a winning season. Still, it's not a bad Free Agent signing.

Oh wait... this post wasn't from 1995?

Not really surprised that he'll be replacing Gardenhire, but I don't know how he'll do as the Twins skipper. Can't see it working out well for the Twins unless he has some good kids coming through the farm system immediately.

for no reason, other than to hire a "celebrity". This sucks. Hate to wish ill on long-suffering Cubs fans, but I hope this blows up in their face.

I'm no Cubs fan, or a Theo Epstein fan, but I thought his justification was head on. Torn between loyalty to one individual or to the entire organization, he had to choose the latter. He made the proper choice. If Renteria was going to have trouble feeding his family or paying his rent as a result I may feel worse for him than I would otherwise.

Let the feeding frenzy begin!!

Cubs will have to do a lot to make the playoffs. Their division is brutal.

Molitor officially the Twins new manager.

I think you might be overstating the impact a manager can have a bit, but even so, comparing him to a first-year manager it is pretty much a no-brainer.

Why, because we want the cubs to win?
"Their" referred to the Cubs, not their fans. Yeah, I'm wishing that this move blows up in the Cubs face, but unfortunately, I can't do that without wishing further suffering on their fans. I apologize for the ambiguity.

AL MVP: Trout
NL MVP: Kershaw

AL Cy Young: Sale
NL Cy Young: Kershaw

AL Cy will be King Felix because of that insane run he had in the middle of the year. Can't say it bothers me.

Rays released a list of 8 preliminary managerial candidates. Certainly a few follow the no-experience trend.

Craig Counsell
David Martinez
Don Wakamatsu
Raul Ibanez
Charlie Montoyo
Manny Acta
Ron Wotus
Kevin Cash

And you have to say what the Cubs did that was so bad in your eyes.
How is firing a rookie manager with a losing record and hiring a guy who has been a winner a bad move?

Clearly they're not interested in losing the Twins Way.

Simply put, I don’t think that the manager did anything to warrant being fired. That losing record was a seven game improvement over the previous year. I don’t follow the Cubs closely, but I don’t recall reading that a seven game improvement was below expectations. Prior to Maddon becoming available, I don’t recall reading that management and/or ownership was disappointed, or that his job was in jeopardy. I don’t like teams firing coaches or managers just because a celebrity replacement becomes available. You can disagree with that and I won’t argue with you. Just how I happen to feel.

And while it doesn’t affect my wanting the move to fail, I don’t think it’s a smart a move as some people do. I’m not sold on Maddon’s managerial reputation. Note that “the guy who has been a winner” managed his team to a record that was four games better than the Cubs this year. Yeah, he’s won in the past in a difficult situation, but he also had the good fortune of coming to the team at the right time. Many years of poor results gave the Rays a great draft position for several years. They drafted wisely, and when all those high draft choices (and Longoria) hit the majors, they had the best young starting pitching staff in the American League.

IMO, The Cubs may have had the right guy, but when a guy like Maddon comes along...boom. Sign that guy. From what I've seen and known, he's one that you don't let get away.
