MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Actually, he might not be tradeable at 38. No one might want him.

Yogi Berra finished his career with the Mets, too. Pete Rose played for the Expos. We can go on and on and on and drive everyone nuts.

Montana with the Chiefs. Bourque with the Avs (although he requested that trade, also).

Ichiro singles to center in his first at bat tonight.

EDIT: And then steals second.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

Ugh. One of the lowpoints in Mariners' history, and we've had our share.

This isn't the French Army, it's Vichy. Dealing with the Yank Sox is collaborating with the Nazis.

Kepler, you are an M's fan? I like you more and more every day.

And the Vichy analogy is perfect!

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

It's also more of the rich getting richer which bugs me. I'd have no beef with him going to the Nats or Pittsburgh. It would give someone a chance that hasn't been there in a while. Him going to the Yanks is like Trump getting another million. Plus, they traded him for pitching. Seattle has a bunch of good arms in their system that are a year away. Get a stick or two. This team couldn't score with a hooker with pocket full of $100 bills. Also, it's another case of the M's trading a star away. They did it with Jr., Randy Johnson, A-Rod and Cliff Lee. They'll probably do the same with Felix. It's not like the Mariners owners are broke. Spend a little cash and fight.

As for my French jokes, I'll march right in from Antwerp and Brussels and say them aloud. :D
See what Hammer said below. This isn't the rich getting richer, because HE ISN'T ANY GOOD ANYMORE.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

The Nats don't need much. Trust me, they're for real. When Strasburg hits his inning limit in September or so, Lannan is down in Syracuse ready to fill the spot.

Now when Ellsbury hits free agency, I could see them making a play for him.

Mauer? He's OK.

Ichiro has 106 hits, and 16 SB. So he's on pace for 175 hits. Not his normal 200, but still nothing to sneeze at.

Sounds pretty good to me.

Jeter is the only Yankee with more hits than Ichiro currently.

Out of 28 outfielders in the AL that have enough ABs to qualify for the batting race. Ichiro is second to last in OBP(73 out of 81 overall in AL) and dead last in slugging( 71 out of 81 overall).

That would be great if the goal of baseball were to accumulate singles, but it isn't. He's been in the top three spots in the order all year (except for the one game with the Yankees), and those 106 hits have come in 406 at bats, which is called "hitting .261." Even if you're a baseball luddite and you still think batting average is important, that's not good. As I said yesterday, he's still a good baserunner, and he plays solid defense, but you expect more than that from a corner outfielder, especially one who's making $17M. The Yankees can afford to pay that salary for middling production, though, which is what this was about.

Also, if you want to nitpick, Cano has more hits too, but the Yankees have a bunch of other outfielders (Granderson, Swisher, Jones, Ibanez, heck even DeWayne Wise) who are also hitting better than Ichiro by standards that are much more important than "number of hits".

Edit: And yes, I know you're trolling, but I couldn't help myself.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

He hit 8th for the Yankees in his first game. ;)
The Mets are terrible (and I'm saying this as a Mets fan) but the guy who hit 8th for them last night is hitting better than Ichiro this year and making 1/34 as much money.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

You might need to slow down and explain this further to someone that watches the Twins regularly.

From what I understand, Ichiro has the batting power to launch homeruns. Watch his BP. He puts on an absolute show.

The Twins, on the other hand, don't have said power.

Re: MLB 2012, Part 1 - It's here

I know great players have been traded before. However, the Mariners essentially had an entire country as a fanbase because of him. I didn't think they'd give him up simply for that fact. This article says all of his Mariners stuff has been bought up by the Japanese and is flying off the shelves.

Made in China
Shipped to USA
Bought by Japanese

Somehow there is irony here.
