Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Bobby Cox makes all the right moves and Hinskie rewards him with a 2-R pinch hit HR in the 8th to take a 2-1 lead. Only the 3rd hit of the game for ATL.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

This Conrad guy is going to be about as loved in Atlanta as William Tecumsah Sherman.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Tom Boswell had a great column on the famous Braves/Pirates Game 7 from '92 where he said, about half-way through the bottom of the 9th, you could feel the disaster coming in on the Pirates. That's what this game felt like for the Braves: Half-way through that top of the 9th, you could tell it wasn't going to end right.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Reds' pitching did a a decent job against the Philly offense, but their defense was terrible.

Now let's hope the Giants finish off the Braves tonight.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Derek Lowe <del>is</del> was having a decent night.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Pretty happy that Texas won it. Since reading Josh Hamilton's book, he has become one of my favorite players. Good for him, however I hope the Yankees wipe the floor with Texas.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

And if the Rays cut payroll by $20 million this offseason like ownership has indicated, I don't know how the hell they think they're going to draw anyone at all to come out. Let's see, we didn't draw flies this season with Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena among others, so let's let them go and see what happens. Brilliant logic. They might not draw 1 million at home next season. Christ, the Pirates and Marlins do significantly better than that.

Well from what I hear it is a problem with geography of the Tampa Bay area. People from Tampa do not want to cross the bridge to St. Pete. Apparently it is a big enough hassle that attendance is hurt that much. Plus Tampa is a bigger city than St. Pete.
And I've always bought into the fact that Florida and the South in general care so much about football that they don't bother with baseball.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Well, I understand why the Marlins are not well supported. They've got pitiful ownership, and that bleeds down through the franchise, whether the talent on the field is good or bad. But this is just a horrible message that the Tampa ownership is sending. There might not be much reason to go to a Rays game next season unless you're a fan of the other team.

The stadium is in just about the worst place possible, for the majority of the people they would take over an hour to get to the stadium, worse during traffic...which as you can tell is when people could be heading to the game.

And Florida on a whole is a terrible place for pro sports. Of all the pro teams in Florida and there are several...Magic, Heat, Bucs, Panthers, Lightning, Rays, Marlins...the only one truly supported is the Dolphins.

And the Marlins were never supported, it had nothing to do with ownership. The state simply supports baseball terribly. Their terrible pro sports fans. There and Georgia are the two most pathetic pro sports states.

More of a college sports state? Florida, FSU and Miami?
