Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Also some ahem philosophical differences with The Cox.
Indeed. I've heard that Escobar is a Calvanistic Empiricist, while Cox subscribes to more of a Hobbesian Rationalist point-of-view.

Led to some fantastic arguments in the clubhouse.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Why do you think Cox and Escobar got into so many arguments? ;)

(And what, did you expect me to be accurate? I was just making it up, and wanted to use Calvin and Hobbes. :p )

It's come to this. I've been reading so much philosophy I didn't even see the Calvin & Hobbes reference. Epic fail.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Yankees announcers make me want to burn down my house.

Called strike three, Longoria slams his bat on the ground, swears all the way to the dugout. "That got the corner!" Overhead view: nowhere near the counter.

Those idiots are the Baghdad Bob of MLB (apologies to Hawk Harrelson).

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Same exact pitch to Jeter in the bottom of the inning, called a ball.

"I don't think its a matter of whether it got the corner or not. Nah, it didn't."

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

bizarre fact: the astros are only committed to 3 players next year (oswalt, lee, lyon) and 2 club options (berkman, myers)

Uh.... There's no one worse than Hawk Harrelson. No one. at least on TV anyhow.

Lots of close calls, but Harrelson is the worst. BY FAR.

The problem is that he has Steve Stone sitting opposite of him, which makes him look better.

Seriously? Bizarre is a perfect word for that. What's even more bizarre is that Oswalt might not even be on the club next year with all the buyers out there.

GQ Magazine agrees with you.

Let's just say Hawk's mouth might be put to better use as the tail end of a human centipede.

Do you double as a Brown fan during hockey season?

What do you expect from the YANKEES broadcast?

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Ron Darling? Part of the #2 booth? I think not. His work on TBS last year during the playoffs was enough for me to put him on par with Joe Buck on my "worst" list.

I think he is a bit toned down on the Mets broadcasts, especially when Keith is around. Between Keith and Ron Darling you get some excellent analysis of both batting and pitching.

I can't respect an announcer that does absolutely ZERO research before a game. Hell, even dick and bert do some research before regular season games for the twins (about the opposing teams). Bert does a fantastic job on the fox saturday afternoon game of the week broadcasts.

Ron Darling did none of that for a playoff series last year. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on Mets broadcasts but playoffs where the Mets aren't involved, terrible.

I dislike the Twins but... wha? Dick and Bert are fantastic commentators, research or not.

How could you compare them to Ron Darling? Or are you saying that you want to compare him to one of the best commentating crews on TV?

Seriously. If you want to compare mediocre with bad, then use the Cubs TV announcers. They aren't bad, but they're definitely not better than mediocre.

What the hell are you talking about? I said I like dick and bert. I used the word "even" because they are a local broadcast team. Darling was a national broadcaster during the playoffs who didn't know ****. I used them as the baseline and said darling didn't even compare.
