Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Which begs the question: What did Juan Samuel do to deserve that punishment?

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

The Orioles shouldn't be as bad as they are. But I don't think it was Trembleys fault.
Sometimes it is just time for a change. Especially when you're that bad. Too bad for the Orioles.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Does saying something equally as petty every time someone says they hate the Yankees somehow make them like the team or its fans more? Or is it just to make you feel better?
I dislike people being morons.

He dislikes one group of millionaires more than a different group of millionaires; and mentions 'horrific injury' and 'body count'. But sure, calling the whaaambulance is just as petty as wishing maiming and death on people who play a boy's game. Obviously. I mean, personally I hope the entire NL gets into some kind of horrible accident on tv. Because obviously that would be meaningful to me in some way that would make me feel like my group of millionaires are somehow superior.

I might not change everyone's minds...but if I can just reach one person.... then it's all worth it in the end. ;)

And back to things that actually matter: King Felix just struck out 4 batters in the 8th inning... the last on his 116th pitch. I know it's happened before, but that's the first time I've ever seen it.

I'm gonna take an educated guess and say that Randy Johnson has done it at least once. I dunno for sure, but he's the most likely candidate.

Red Cloud is a total internet tough guy, and an arsehole otherwise.
You, sir, are a wannabe Red Cloud. That is kinda sad.

I hate the Yankees, but I hate the system that allows the Yankees to do what they do even more.

I'm a wannabe internet tough guy?

Please elaborate. :)

And Tim Wakefield's done it while Randy Johnson never did, apparently. Chuck Finley did it twice for two different teams. King Felix is the 17th pitcher in history to do it to 4 batters in a row... making it rarer than a perfect game - go figure.

(4 strikeouts that is, not sure about being an internet tough guy. I'd put my money on curt schilling ahead of anyone else though)

Thank you for the stats. That is actually surprising, given the stereotypical nature of a knuckleballer.

And Chuck? That is *ing astounding. For real.

Yeah, you go through the motions of an internet tough guy, but you're so fake and trollish, it really doesn't count.

Ya gotta speak from the heart, and with you being a Yankee fan, you have no heart. So that's kinda a problem. :D

Actually, I can only think of one post I've made this year that was even remotely intending to be 'trollish', and 3/4 of that post were still serious... it was amusing seeing people ignore the first 3/4 to just focus on the last sentence though. I guess seeing what you want to see trumps all.

If people are being unnecessarily stupid... I'll generally call them out on it. Case in point earlier in this thread: It's just asinine to post something like that. Like if someone runs out onto the field and stabs robinson cano, people would actually be happy because he signed a contract with the yankees, but it would be a travesty if it happened to brad lidge?

If you actually believe that, then you are a waste of life. If you don't believe it and post it anyway... then wouldn't that be the 'internet tough guy' you're talking about? I don't make personal attacks and I don't make threats. I just point out when people are being morons. If they said that in front of me, I'd say the same things to them. You've got an odd definition of 'tough guy' then.

And given the nature of a knuckleball, isn't multiple strikeouts kind of likely? As well as the liklihood of a wild pitch. Both of which are necessary to get 4 K's in one inning. Although I doubt I would've guessed virtually any of the names on that list.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Wait, Chuck Finley has more 4 strikeout innings than anyone else?

Wow.

That's right up there with people thinking 20 strikeouts is the record.

Tom Cheney FTW.

Well in a 9 inning game it's the record. ;)

Pitching 16 innings in one game probably had something to do with him flaming out of baseball a couple years later... even if that's impressive even for the 60's.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

It also takes a perfect game from the umps to achieve a perfect game.

That's not true at all. The final pitch of the Larson perfecto wasn't in the same area code as the strike zone. But if I'm the 27th batter I'm going to swing at anything, because I know I'm not getting a call. :D

Way to jump in for no apparent reason.

That you think there was "no apparent reason" pretty much confirms the impression I've already got on you.

Critical thinking isn't one of your strong points, obviously.

Still adding nothing to the conversation I see.

Are weak insults and inane banter all you have?

I hate the Yankees, too, but I'm never going to wish an injury/calamity on one of them. They're people, playing a game.

Schilling, definitely. I could see Wakefield just posting (sort of like Bob McKenzie when his son played). When I picture Randy Johnson trying to use a computer, I see something similar to that scene in "Office Space" when they "fix" the printer.
