Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

So now I'm wondering if the roads will even be cleared by the time I leave at 3:30 this afternoon...

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

ok, i have been seeing these threads for several years now, and i sometimes read them. I have one question, "what do you mean by 'arguing' in the title?" i see a lot of discussing but no arguing. Arguing is what i have been particpating in on the rpi and union threads for the last week. :d

Ah. I'd like to have an argument, please. :D

m: I came here for a good argument.
A: No you didn't; no, you came here for an argument.
M: An argument isn't just contradiction.
A: It can be.
M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.
A: No it isn't.
M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction.
A: Look, if i argue with you, i must take up a contrary position.
M: Yes, but that's not just saying 'no it isn't.'
a: Yes it is!
M: No it isn't!

A: Yes it is!
M: Argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of any statement the other person makes.
(short pause)
a: No it isn't.
M: It is.
A: Not at all.
M: Now look.
A: (rings bell) good morning.
M: What?
A: That's it. Good morning.
M: I was just getting interested.
A: Sorry, the five minutes is up.
M: That was never five minutes!
A: I'm afraid it was.
M: It wasn't.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

I saw a hilarious tweet on Tuesday night while refreshing to find out the latest on the gridlock... :D

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

The ONE road that I need to get to any other side roads (without driving well out of my way) was backed up a couple miles today for no apparent reason other than people are morons. Green light would turn, car would wait, and wait, and wait, then over-accelerate and slide, then finally get traction, and by this time the light was yellow again. Not kidding.

I ended up driving 3-4 miles out of my way on random side streets I was unfamiliar with (basically if it went in the direction I needed at the time, I took that street). At least they had no cars on them.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Weatherman is predicting another two snow storms to hit us in SE Michigan in the next week, and no signs of a melt happening anytime soon. Think I'm going to have to spend a good part of my Sunday battering apart the old snow pile along the driveway simply because I can't pile up any more snow there with the tractor blade. I've got a fence right alongside part of our driveway, and that seems to be catching a lot of drifts there, thinking if I pull it all across the driveway and out into the field, I should be able to clear up some of that issue. At least get things to where its not bogging down so bad just trying to make a pass down the driveway.

Until then, if anybody needs me, I'm going to be out in my snow fort!! :p

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

I had one road I had to take to get to work today, and everyone on it went 15 mph. IT'S A STRAIGHT ROAD. GO.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Frustrating. 85th/Weaver Lake wasn't nearly as bad as those jokers were pretending. My car with three year old snow tires and no traction control or ABS didn't slip once. Your frickin Jeep should be running circles around me.

It was. The trouble was the morons around me.

Morons is right. Yesterday morning, taking the dog up to Cambridge, I was turning north on 65 from Crosstown. In the left turn lane, green arrow lights up, I start to go, and check quick to make sure no one is still coming. Sure enough there is a van that looks to have no intention of stopping, going about 30 mph. They lady goes through the intersection a good 10 seconds after the light turned red, blaring on the horn, at 30 mph. That lady deserved to be t-boned, if only I didn't care about my truck. She was so late going through the red light, that by the time I waited for her dumb *** to go through, my light was yellow.

It's times like these I wonder what would happen if you had video of something like this from a dash-cam and took it to the cops... That's flat out reckless endangerment...

I learned very quickly in my car that you brake check when it's snowing out well before every intersection. Not just for braking but also for getting going from a stop. If it's slippery, I'll start braking earlier and allow myself to coast up to where I need to stop. I try to time it so that I never actually come to a stop. If it's not slippery, I'll still be aware that black ice could have formed closer to the intersection, but I won't coast the entire way.

Thumbs up for physics!

Yay, Science. *****!

Are physics just not explained well enough to drivers? Or were our drivers ed instructors and family better at explaining this stuff when we were younger?

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

While it was years ago, I still remember driving after an ice storm once. Pulled up to a stop sign, stopped...and started to slide sideways. The street was crowned.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Long and short is that it only takes one moron at the front of the line to back things up for hours. The chain reaction of that one moron can take a long time to work itself out.

Not that it doesn't frustrate the crap out of me just like you guys...
