Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Schools are closed again today, but I'm heading to work before I go all Shining on these people...

:D

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Its been a bit brisk, but it hasn't really bothered me. Went out to do some errands after work yesterday and wasn't bugged by the cold. Got the mail in shorts and t-shirt, didn't lose any limbs. Apparently a huge portion of the population of my state are turning into huge vaginas.

The worst part is taking pets out. My puppy whines about going outside then is so surprised that it is so cold that she wastes all of her time walking around and not going to the bathroom. You bring her back in and she is whining again.

Beau isn't bothered by it, it seems. He rings his bell to go out, we let him out, he wanders around like normal, pees, and comes back in in a few minutes.

Like this guy?

Just how cold is it in Kentucky? Apparently cold enough for an escaped prisoner to decide to turn himself in.

Authorities say the inmate escaped from a minimum security facility in Lexington on Sunday. As temperatures dropped into the low single digits Monday, they say he walked into a motel and asked the clerk to call police.

Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts says 42-year-old Robert Vick of Hartford told the clerk he wanted to turn himself in and escape the arctic air

Can barely see out my window to take the dog out to the bathroom. My little dachshund/beagle was almost buried in the short time I was out.

Car therm said 6F on the way home today. Didn't think that was supposed to happen until at least tomorrow.

Believe it topped at 3. I suspect cars can be a couple degrees warmer depending on the situation.

Is it just me or does this Polar Vortex sound like a Doctor Who plot device?

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

3 is what I saw too. Which is 3 degrees warmer than it was supposed to be. Above freezing by Saturday...

Yeah, we've pretty much given up on trying to keep a path around the dog yard cleared for jack Russells. Just keep the deck somewhat clean with some packed down snow on it, and let em do it there. works pretty good, but last night our female Angel thought she should go down the steps for some reason. I saw that she went down the steps and went to go grab some shoes to go rescue her but by the time I got out there she had managed to get back up on the porch. I swear her thought bubble said "I've made a huge mistake!" and after she finished her business out there I had to brush the snow off of her as she just so sad and pathetic about it.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

I can't believe all the business that were shutting down yesterday. What was the goal they were trying to accomplish? I hope they regret that decision as it didn't turn out nearly as bad as it was on Monday.

I found it odd that schools cancelled yesterday given how it was the same temp...but then I saw that the Wind Chill Warning was still in effect when students would be going to school.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

Overall it was pretty silly for businesses to shut down, we were out running errands, and it would have been pretty frustrating if a store was closed unexpectedly, luckily we didn't run into any. Even my work sent out an email to work from home on Monday. There really was no reason why people couldn't go to work, this is Minnesota, not Florida. Also, I didn't think it was cold enough yesterday to cancel school, Monday was understandable, it was colder than yesterday and there were safetly risks.

Re: Minnesotans Still Arguing About the Weather...

I can't remember them ever closing school here because of temps or wind chill. The county has -20 on a regular basis, -45 wind chills, who the heck cold was out there?

Perhaps some peoples cars couldn't start or they had kids home from school and no daycare options.

Wind chills were in the -50's. High of about -14 for the day. Not that cold, but it was a pretty severe wind chill.
