Minnesotans Arguing About the Weather III: Storm's a comin'

Green skies and thunder sleet earlier today. No, I don't recall ever having witnessed that before today.

Odd, we had a horrible gray-orange overcast in GDO most of the day.

I skied in that in the Laurentians in 1978. I don't recommend it. Apparently green skies mean the clouds are incredibly high and it can indicate a tornado. I didn't know that at the time and I am really glad.

I thoguht it had to do with refraction through ice. A quick google search reveals it we have no idea. Sort of. It doesn't mean tornado. It also doesn't necessarily mean hail. Or something.

This current typhoon is kicking our asses where I am. The first one hitting my area this hard since I moved here. Power is out, I've lost at least one large papaya tree and banana tree but I'm not spending time outside in the dark to check. Went out back to secure some things and 3 ceiling eave panels are gone completely. We should be OK otherwise from flooding etc but who knows. Ugh

Holy shit

stay safe!!!!

Thanks all - we made it through the worst of it structurally and no flooding in the house. We lost a total of 4 trees and as before some wood panels. Electricity was back on for 1 hour at 5 pm, then out again and still out when I left to go into the office. Safe and sound - now trying to hear from my employees.

Glad to hear you’re ok

My fellow Minnesotans, have fun with your last minute Xmas shopping! It looks like we've got a recipe for icy roads, and the salt trucks won't really be of much use.

Meh the last time we were supposed to get massive snow we got like 2 inches here. Was a similar forecast they just got the time of the deep freeze wrong so most of the snow ended up being rain which was salted away quite easily.

Well I saw the temp drop so I went out and did a couple of passes on the driveway and walkway. Got rid of all the slush and put down some pretty decent salt so should be all good. Mostly blowing snow right now but wanted to get rid of as much watery stuff as possible before the deep freeze.

I planned to do some preemptive shoveling once my work day ends. My MIL and FIL are both in their 70s and will be here tomorrow evening. It won't take long today before it's too cold for the salt to do its job.

We’re pretty well stocked and ready to be shut ins for a few days. Not much different than the rest of 2020. Only thing making me a little nervous is the lights flickering a bit.

Today we lost power for the third time since moving into this hellhole of a city. F Xcel Energy. In all my time in Farmington, I lost power once, for about 10 minutes in all of the 15 years I lived there. And Xcel charges more for both gas and electric than I was charged by MN Energy Resources (gas company) and Dakota Electric (fairy wind company).

Where do you live? I think the only time I lost power because of the weather was during the tornado this summer in Golden Valley.
