Minnesota Women's Hockey Off-Season 2015: #BASK

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey Off-Season 2015: #BASK

SIX more players officially added to the team: http://www.gophersports.com/sports/w-hockey/spec-rel/051515aab.html

Anna Barlow, Defense, South St. Paul High School
Tianna Gunderson, Forward, Roseau High School
Emma May, Goaltender, Cretin-Derham Hall
Caitlin Reilly, Forward, transfer from Penn State (Benilde-St. Margaret's)
Nicole Schammel, Forward, transfer from Minnesota State (Red Wing High School)
Sierra Smith, Forward, Stillwater High School

Schammel will most likely have to redshirt 2015-2016 due to the WCHA in-conference transfer rule.

This I find to be some particularly good news. ;) Nevertheless. ;)

Same time...you have to feel for the new regime at MSU-M. A considerable loss before they even hit the ground.

It won't be the first Minnesota recruit Harrington loses to UM. Better for him to realize that the first week on the job.

Even w/o Schammel for another year, that is still eight players to replace five (four seniors and Kate Flug). Eeyore should be happy; okay, not HAPPY, but you know what I mean.

Hockeysbest probably will also be "not happy".

Off-season ink...:) How 'bout that.

slow news day

maybe Frost should think about a JV team so all of the players get the playing time they need
I'd give the JV team a 50/50 shot at making the NCAA

and perhaps their non-conference schedule should be DIII men's teams

...Hannah Brandt or Cara Piazza. I thought Hannah got a little worn out after some of those double shifts last year. I hope coach Frost plays a fourth line at least one shift each period next year when he can.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey Off-Season 2015: #BASK

"We want to hit the state of Minnesota extremely hard, and we want to keep the best players here," Frost said.

Hitting the panic button a bit to try and stop the bleeding.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey Off-Season 2015: #BASK

Yeah. Clearly, Frost is panicking.

Exactly, my guess is his job is on the line. If this team does not shape up & do better he could be back at Apple Valley High coaching volleyball. Poor guy just can't seem to find the right combination. He had an Ok year a couple back but has never managed to equal that record since.

I assume these kids know that many of them will be practice players.
I'd guess that most of them get to at least dress for a game before 2015 is complete. The total on the roster other than Schammel will be 24, which is less than the 28-30 that some teams have had in the past. I remember BSU and UND having some crowded rosters.

It was Eagan.

I bet you are right about that. If nothing else it might give him a chance to rest for a game or a weekend if they are dinged up and let them heal. Its not unusual in hockey to have a player or two sitting in the press box because there are not enough slots. A 40 game season gives plenty of opportunity to rotate in.

Eagan, Apple Valley, all the same to me ;)

Yes, Reilly did play on a line with Pannek along with Yale's Brittany Wheeler. The three once totaled 17 points in a game against Spring Lake Park in 2013.

really excited about Caitlin Reilly. Thought she was the best player on the ice in the 2014 state tournament.

The ice-time crunch will hit in 2016 when 5 will graduate and 7 will replace them (Schammel plus 6 recruits). The nice thing about having the additional recruits this year is that they will be juniors during the Olympic year, so you are not trying to replace both graduating seniors and centralized players with freshmen.
