Minnesota Women's Hockey: Off Season 2010

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey: Off Season 2010

Twins are a pretty fun team to watch so far this season...eh?

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey: Off Season 2010

I thought the twins left Minnesota.....OH, you mean THOSE twins??? LOL
I can't say it'll be as fun to watch THOSE twins in 2010-2011, but it will be very interesting witnessing the likely considerable positive impact the GF twins have for the Sioux along with UND's other additions for next season. I fully expect some upward mobility in the WCHA race...how much is the question. Could be enough to put Idalski in the running for COTY...maybe.

You are right, sir, she has worked extremely hard and has developed into quite the player. My bad for failing to include her.

And Rasmussen. My opinion is that while wearing the "C" she never did anything other than work hard and provide the kind of example to the younger players that you want your captains to provide.

Yes, I'd be shocked if West did not get the "C". Also agree that Schoullis, Schleper and Erickson should all be in the mix for "A" consideration.

Correct -- captains were not announced at the banquet, similar to 2009. Perhaps the reason is that they want the entire team, including the incoming class, to be involved in captain selection.

The junior class in particular has some excellent captain potential. Schoullis, a junior in terms of eligibility, will be in her 4th year in the program. A player such as Schleper who was an All American as a soph also deserves consideration. In any case, I'm thinking West is a lock to wear a "C", and it is just a question of whether she is joined by others wearing an "A" or a "C".

Erickson
Schleper
So...many qualified candidates. I look forward to seeing the selections...who / how many. It becomes my primary off season obsession...since we have a pretty clear picture of the 2010-2011 roster at this point.*

I've stayed out of the captaincy conversation until now, but I'll chime in here.

In addition to West and Rasmussen, I have to pick Schleper and Schoullis. I can't see more than four captains -- they had four last year, and that's quite a lot -- plus that sets up two very qualified juniors to be carry over to the 2011-2012 season.

I don't know much (if anything) about the leadership skills of any of the gals. Obviously Sarah E. is a leader when it comes to community service (as indicated by her winning the Ridder Award at the banquet) and is perpetual scoring threat. For some reason, though, I just perceive Jen as a better on-ice leader. Plus, despite being on the shelf last season, Jen will be in her fourth year as a member of the program (as ARM noted). But if Sarah gets the nod over Jen, I won't be able to complain about the decision.

Imagine the uproar that would be heard from UMD fans if a Gopher fan were to post something similarly stupid and childish in a UMD thread. It would be a deafening cacophony lasting for days.

Why bother? You know that Sybil is going to manage to claim some moral high ground, then amaze us all with with a litany of web lingo, meaningless graphics, and intro to HTML. Items of interest to hockey fans ... not so much. Quit feeding it.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey: Off Season 2010

I've had an insider look at the upcoming schedule for the Gophers. It indicated four non-conference games in October -- two on the road and two at home -- and then another two-game non-conference weekend at home in November. Since I don't know how finalized it is, though, I don't want to name opponents yet.

One thing I do feel comfortable mentioning is the off weekend in November -- probably to align with the Four Nations Cup tournament.
Had to pull this over CD...I won't attempt to squeeze you for that insider info, but...the 2010-2011 NC schedule and possible opponents is something I wanted to address in the off season thread. I was just wondering who might be NC opponents next season...who Gopher fans might like to see etc.

I know others with better memories might have a better idea on who Minnesota may be obliged to play as return of favor so to speak. I'd imagine Syracuse at Ridder had to be a first NC series between the two last season so...

The Gophers traveled to Harvard and hosted Clarkson last season...just hope we get some quality NC opponents in 2010-2011. Always good to gauge and tuneup vs. quality opponents you're not ridiculously familiar with. Really enjoy those NC series at home with a break from the WCHA grind.

After the NCAA quarterfinal game, the Clarkson coaches mentioned that next season the Gophers would be the team having to travel, so might that be the road series? I would think that we would owe BC a trip there as well from 07-08. And we've also never been to Robert Morris in addition to Syracuse. But if we are only doing one road NC series ...

As for home, I know we've been to Wayne St., and I don't recall them ever coming here.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey: Off Season 2010

I'd love to see Harvard or Dartmouth come to Ridder. Each has a number of Minnesota girls that I haven't seen play since they were in high school.

I spoke to Coach Stone, and she has no problem coming out next fall for a set. ;)

Always great games to watch.

A question that has crossed my mind a time or two...don't know if anyone might know. Any connection between "Butsy" and Sarah? Just wondering.
