Minnesota Women's Hockey 2025-26

Didn’t realize the agents are influencing recruits on where to go these days. Such a different world we live in now.
I doubt there's much of that yet in women's hockey at the NCAA level, but anytime you hear of somebody getting a $1M NIL deal, I'm sure there's an agent getting a cut. I believe that top deals even in a more established sport like volleyball likely have a ceiling around $200K.

NIL deal monitoring through a third party started back in July. Supposedly there has to be some sense to deals going forward in that the player has to contribute something of value in return for the money. I would agree this isn't a factor in women's hockey. Many NIL collectives disbursed large funds prior to July so they wouldn't have to go through the reporting.

Looking at the Gopher website, Jess Scott (and video coach Ryan Kearney) is staying on and Mitch Baker's name is no longer listed.

Some goalie coach names that may make sense:

-Alli Altmann (St. Thomas): Worked with the US Olympic team this year. I'm sure that drew plenty of attention.
-Mackenzie Bruch (Minnesota State): Worked with the US U18 team this year, where May was an assistant coach. Was at Yale before MSU.
-Noora Raty (St. Cloud State): I don't think this one requires further explanation.

Just spitballing here if those don't work out:

-Pete Samargia (Minnesota Frost): Graduated from Augsburg the year before May got there as a student.
-Karel Popper (ECHL Wheeling): Was the Gophers' goalie coach from 2018 to 2021.
-Brennan Poderzay (men's goalie coach): Unsure to this point if the new staff's gonna keep him on. Worked with the NWHL Whitecaps and PWHL Frost.
-Olivia King (color commentator): Recent graduate who's been doing some goalie coaching at the high school level in addition to her media work.
-Anyone who runs a goalie school in the area, I don't know actually

The USCHO podcast does talk about your coaching situation if you want to hop on there and take a listen. It's towards the end, but not the end.

Brad Frost did so much good for Wisconsin women's hockey recently that I'm not surprised that two Badger fans would speak highly of him.

Okay I'm over the past now. Moving on.
