Minnesota Women's Hockey 2025-26

Legal drinking age didn't matter when I was 19. 😁
Wisconsin started selling beer, this is the second season they have done so. I don't know that it has made any difference in how many students come to the games. But there is one section on the end that might be more student than otherwise, and they have used the beer sales to start a 'new tradition' that is really great.

During the game, between periods, they will come around to collect as many empty cans as they can manage, and then at the end of the game, they put up a beer can pyramid right up against the glass. Then the team members choose their own 'player of the game' to skate over, jump into the glass, and knock over the pyramid.

And the players had made some great choices: backup goalie Chloe Baker gets into a blowout game for a period, she gets to knock over the pyramid; forward Bella Vasseur gets into a game as the 'extra skater' after having been injured for over a year, she gets to knock over the pyramid, etc etc. Many in the crowd stay to see who is chosen and then cheer when the pyramid goes down.

Had been pretty depressed and had gone deep down a gopherhole. Just popped up and see that I have missed some pretty big news. How's that for apathy?

Mixed bag with Frost for me. In some ways, it will be sad to not see him behind the bench or out there at girl's high school hockey games. Have had the chance to talk with him a number of times as he was scouting players. Our family, specifically my dad and sister, knew the Frost family so he was very gracious when he would see me out there at the high school games and would take time to talk with me. Also It meant a lot to our family that he attended my dad's funeral.

However it did seem like, especially this year, his time to coach the Gophers was drawing to an end. while on the surface, this may not seem like might the best for him in the short term I believe there are better things ahead for him and his family.

This is the right first decision for the Gopher program to make this change, but it also needs to followed up with a good decision on who they hire.

The jaded Minnesota sports fan in me feels like the U of M decision makers have the capability to screw this up. Please U of M, don't screw this up as there are a number of good candidates out there who should be interested in this job.

Hey, and just putting it out there that the muzzinator could be done lobbying for a new facility, sit right in the middle of the best high school hockey recruiting ground, and not have to take a back seat to anyone on where her Minnesota hockey camps are run. :)

I don't think she would leave Ohio State, not at this point in time. She's proud of what she's built here and is not done cementing her legacy. At least I hope so and there's a couple more factors. All coaches know moving on can be part of the job and uprooting your family isn't fun but her children have spent nearly their entire lives here, would she do that to them if there's not a genuine need? The arena issue, it hasn't held her back on getting the talent she wants so in that regard it's not a detriment. Lastly the money. She's currently the highest paid D1 women's hockey coach second only to MJ and her travel and recruiting budget is astronomical which brings me to no other university in the country can outspent what Ohio State can offer to keep her here. If she wins the Natty her new contract extension offer will be sweetened quite a bit.
