No Schipper and no Piazza in the lineup. Kelsey Cline is listed as a third line wing. This does not bode well.

And Emma May is scratched.

Looking at that line sheet was SUCH a bummer :(

(Let's go Gophers!)

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

I quote from the following article on Cameranesi:

"She is currently ninth on the Gophers’ all-time scoring list with 169 points (75 goals, 94 assists)."

I suppose if you void this years numbers (which are 18 goals and 14 assists for 32 points) then the 169 points would be accurate. I think however, most folks would acknowledge this years numbers, for a more up to date total of 201 points (93 goals, 108 assists) ;)

I'll own up to this being my fault. I took those numbers from the Minny women's hockey site, but didn't even think about them not being up to do this season.

St Cloud starting 3rd string goalie. Flu bug.

This will be interesting.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

Man, that second period was bad. Even with all the injuries, I didn't expect that.

But, some signs of life the last few minutes. I'd be good to see them carry that into the third.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

Halfway through the second period, we started to get Kelsey Cline, first line wing. I have no idea what kind of odds you'd have had to give me before I'd have put money on ever using that phrase.

For whatever reason, Reilly just doesn't seem to click on the first line, but they either need to stop trying it, or give her a whole weekend there. This approach of starting that way every game and then changing their mind in the second period seems pretty pointless. Right now, there are no line combinations that are going to produce immediate offense, so at least let people get used to each other.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

Great pass by Megan Wolfe to win the game for the Gophers.

It would be nice to see a forward (other than the first line) make a pass like that.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

Teams should be lining up to play Minnesota right now because this team is broken. From injury and illness all the way to bad karma for roster stashing, this team has a general malaise surrounding it.

Maybe Muzzy was the glue that kept everything together ???

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

More likely, the Amandas, Hannah, Milica, and Brook...

Yes. And injuries have played a role

Also, to the point, Bethany Brausen is very young with limited experience, and had zero time to prepare for her first season at this level. One would certainly expect her to be better with a year under her belt, and an offseason to get herself together, review the year, and put some plans together.

Watching the Ohio State series was very enjoyable. I thought everyone played hard and they looked like a pretty together team.

And then there was last night

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

I didn't think they were that bad last night, keeoing a couple of things in mind. For one, you're looking at a bunch of lines that have never played together (and why I think they really need to decide on some lines and then leave them alone for a weekend, rather than constantly shuffling them). Also, the bigger ice sheet played a role in some of the botched paaing.

This team can't score, even when they do pkay well.

This is probably the most perplexing thing about this team.

How about that?

Kelly Pannek is awarded a penalty shot and they don't show it on the stream!!!!!!!!

Oh, my fri**in' goodness.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2016-2017 (aka Season 20)

It's an offensive explosion!

Coming in to today's game our scoring % was .089. With 39 SOG after two we are lowering that today...lol.

2009-10 was only year in program history when scoring % was under .1 (.093).

( Good game today so far, though :) )

Gophers played well.
Everyone got to play and contribute.
We put a few in the net.
Peters and the team got a shut out.
Good day!

Indeed...Nice to see Tianna Gunderson get her first goal as a Gopher.

It would have been Gunderson's second career goal, but she missed an open net in the second period.

We got goals from all four lines and a defenseman. A good day.
