Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

Concussions - they suck!!!!

I have 2 boys who still play at the college level. Both have had 3 concussions, although they deny 1 each. I keep count and monitor their recovery after each one.

I hope for a clean journey for Amanda for the rest of this season - for sure!!!!!!!

What one of the boys coaches did was use him on PP for the first 5 games and nothing else when he came back. He was also not used as a forward on PP but instead as a defenseman (prior to the concussion he was a full time forward). This largely kept him out of the scrums. Ultimately the coach liked him more as a defenseman and left him there full time.

I breath deeply when I see these announcements. I truly hope this is a good idea, and wish nothing but a healthy and successful finish to Amanda's NCAA career.

Last year, Pucci from Harvard came back after Christmas and I watched it closely. Two of her concussions came from Jenner (not blaming her) but I always choose to watch the games where Harvard and Cornell played, hoping that she would just get through.

All the best to Amanda with hopes that she will apply all of her skills in a measured way. She is obviously a difference maker, but with UM she doesn't have to do it all.

It's tough to stop a race horse from racing.

I am glad she is able to rejoin the team, healthy, and extend my best wishes to her for continued health and success. It sure would be nice to see her in Red, White, and Blue again too. A game changer.

DITTO here. Welcome back Amanda

This is even a stretch for Frosty. I'm happy for AK but I am curious how hard Frosty had to work her to get her to take the risk! Understanding that she has been practicing since back in November, I still think the reality of contact in a game is way to much risk for her to take. You feel great? Walk away for your own personal health & your future!
The thought of losing to Wisconsin or BC has dropped this program to an unprecedented level. I wonder the player on the current top 2 lines feel about the shake-up! It will be fun to watch what impact this has on the team. I hope the next discussion in regards to AK is not re-occurring concussion symptoms.

What evidence do you have for your accusation that she is returning at Frost's urging?

Yeah I get everyone's concern for Amanda's health but to suggest that anyone, be it Frost or Amanda herself, wanted her to rush back or come back before she was ready doesn't really fit the timeline.

The girl retired. She gave up hockey. So there was no expectation of her to come back at all. It sounds to me her recovery was a pleasant surprise, and she's healthy enough not just to "give it a shot," but healthy enough that she was prompted to unexpectedly come out of retirement.

That in and of itself is worth celebrating.

Having said that this is a terrible decision for her for her ability to have free time, and I think that she, Brandt, Cameranesi, Pannek, and Potomak are doing a disservice to themselves by not quitting hockey and focusing full time on other productive hobbies like perhaps crossword puzzles or spelunking.

I'm just looking out for what's best for these girls.

Good stuff.

I would have to agree that Amanda is both fully capable, healthy and ready to go. Its been a long time coming.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but doesn't the center position largely stay out of the corners? Could help.

If memory serves in her last year with the Gophers (Junior, 2012-13) she played right wing on a line with Hannah Brandt (freshman center) and Maryanne Menefee (freshman left wing). But in Frost's system it shouldn't matter much if she were to play center as quite often they are responsible for digging the puck out of the corners as well.

P.S. Here's her up-to-date bio from the Gopher Women's Hockey site: http://www.gophersports.com/sports/w-hockey/mtt/amanda_kessel_760156.html

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

Any thoughts on new lines with Kessel returning?

Brandt-Kessel-Cameranesi
Pannek-Potomak-Schipper
Piazza-Garzone-Reilly

:D

I can't predict what he does when he cuts shifts from Kessel as she's getting endurance back.

:D

4th line improves as well.

You have never posted a more objective comment than this. You are to be commended for your thoughtfulness. The world you be a better place if we all thought like you. I almost feel guilty for hoping Brandt would twist an ankle. Now I have to hope Brandt and Kessel twist their ankles. Or retire.

^, UND has been playing 4 lines, so put her on the 4th line and play 'em

I'll be surprised if there is any shakeup of the lines
and I'll be surprised if she doesn't see some PP duty
but I guess that's why I buy a ticket, to see what happens, and be surprised

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

I think we have things covered...

1. Frost is the evil manipulater...Check
2. The expert posters on here know what great risk there is for AK and have sage advice that she should just walk away...Check
3. The "Program" has dropped to an unprecedented level where they duck competition and it leads to point #1...Check
4. They are messing with the chemistry on this team...Check

I have already expressed my concerns for her well being, that has not changed.

As well as I know frosty my guess is he showd AK the bullet that would be used to kill her and the one for her dog. I know this is the same tactic he uses to force recuits to come to mn in the first place. You also might see him parked outside arenas in a windowless van with "free skates" hand painted on the side. Why would anyone think a 20-something woman would be capable of making this sort of decision for herself?

At this point I would be satisfied if she stayed on the bench. Just the pants wetting here has been more entertaining than the und bsu game I watched earlier this year.

I think it's been pretty tame, but is in comparison to the men's forum, which is decidedly more subjective, innuendo filled and assumption filled.

One of many reasons I am not unhappy that womens hockey is not the same as mens.

There's a lot more alcohol consumption on the men's forum.

As for line changes, I think it's a given that if not this weekend, at some point, the shifts that Kessel skates will be with Brandt, and Cameranesi isn't likely to go anywhere. Because Pannek centered Potomak and Piazza down the stretch in Bemidji, I expect to see that line together. That frees up Schipper for the third line, which suddenly becomes a line that could even be used as a primary checking line if Frost desired, just because #6 brings more experience there. If Kessel needs shifts off, then I think Schipper would take those with the Brandt line, and the third line would return to being Williamson centering Reilly and Garzone. All this changes if the staff prefers Piazza rather than Williamson at center.
