Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

Kelly does a fantastic job on the Beaver radio network and if she said it was a high stick IT WAS! Too bad the Beavers couldn't pull the upset, but with a goal on a bad bounce that was kicked in by the Beaver's own player, a phantom rough call and a PP goal that was a high stick, can we say "The Beaver's got homered"? Oh wait a minute..... they were at home. Anyone know where the referees live:eek: ?

The story in the Benidji paper said the puck never touched the stick, it came off a body.

I know where those officials live. The Northern Minnesota Home for the Criminally Blind. Their work was a joke. I have changed my mind though on my original opinion that since they ignored penalties both ways. The fact thaMN was2 for 2 on the pp while BSU was 0 for 2 with1 sog the game would have been out of reach for BSU had both teams been called for their infractions.

Agree that the officiating was atrocious. My problem is they let everything go for the entire game to include some pretty obvious hooks, interference and physical play, then they call a "rough" with 8 minutes left in the game. I never saw anything that was remotely close to the clutch, grab or shove stuff that was allowed all game. It was the same ref who called the phantom rough in last night's game. Hats off to the Gophers as they are a great team and they did beat the Beavers with their special teams. It was just too bad for the Beavers who played two outstanding games, worked their tails off and then left the ice scratching their heads (as was Scanlon).

Agreed, the stuff not called way outpaced the 2 stupid things they called & that was the same as last night. BSU got screwed on a decent rush by an offside call that was not even close to being offside. The one doofus still has no idea how to drop the puck, the simplest thing a linesman does & he couldn't handle it! I have been very impressed by BSU, they have been a killer defense the last few years but they were really willing to open it up a bit & play offense this weekend, that made them a lot more difficult. This could turn into a really fun series as the get better and better. Despite stifling the Gopher offense there was no dirty stuff going on like UND does or OSU was guilty of under their old coach. I don't mind losing fair & square but don't want to see kids get hurt by dirty play. i hope BSU finishes 3rd although that probably means we get UND for the WCHA. I only wish the NCAA would send the out East so they could prove what the #3 WCHA is.

Good assessment and agree with you ne7minder. I thought the offside call you mention was a blown call. I was right on the blue line and it looked good to me. I am glad you mentioned it as I did not want to see everything through my Green lense. Overall a fun weekend of hockey and I think the Beavers showed that they belong in the top tier of Women's hockey. Just was a bummer that the "weird" officiating had such an impact on both games. As Scanlon said in his post game interview, "it was like taking a gut punch".

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

In terms of plays called incorrectly, I thought that yesterday was the worst-officiated game that I've seen all season. Not biased, just bad, and it was all four people on the ice. It had to be hard for both teams, because there was no consistency in how anything would be called, except that the referees appeared to be under the belief that if they called one penalty a game each way, then they'd called a good game. It was a credit to the players that it didn't turn into a dangerous game, because it was player discipline, not control by the officials, that prevented it.

Player discipline was a huge feature of the series. Not only in avoiding chippiness or losing control of themselves in penalties. Bemidji plays an impressively disciplined game and made very few mistakes. It was a great series and I felt a little for the Beavers in playing so well and coming out with zero.

I was disappointed with the Gophers play in the first period yesterday. It would have been a bummer to lose and have them play that way. But I thought they played great the last two periods. I saw it like Frosty did. I'm happy they won, but it wouldn't have felt SO bad to go down playing like they did the last two periods.

Hats off to Megan Wolfe for another good series!

Especially as I was told that she was ill. It's a lonnnggggg season for all of these teams, and they have to deal with a lot besides just playing hockey. Minutes after a crushing loss for BSU after which they gave everything, the players are out on the ice skating with little kids and providing lifelong memories.

I mentioned that after fridays debacle, I'm sure the fact that it was close helped keep things calm but shiver to think what might happen against und in a game called that badly. I wish the WCHA gave a crap but complaining would be pointless.

I did leave feeling bad for the Beavers, they deserved a better fate.

I could of sworn I was reading something written by a BC supporter. ;) Let's see how she winds up transitioning to the college game first.
It's been reported that the author does have a tendency to exaggerate some things in his hockey articles, so I can understand why you were confused. ;) Even so we're glad to have her in a Gopher uniform in about 18 months. :)

Probably doesn't matter, from what I hear Frost just recruits the girls than never lets them play. If she ever does accidentally get on the ice I think "zoom zoom" is a great nickname.

No...no association with a former bullmutt please...;)

Note that I never claimed she would actually PLAY. I was just looking forward to seeing her in a Gopher uniform, and you know being in the team picture and everything. ;)
