Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

And BC knows what they are doing in not scheduling these games. It is detrimental to their PWR should they lose.

It ain't just us, if you think the west is ducking the east then you should agree that the reverse argument works just as well, the east is ducking the west.
Except that's not the case, BC is actively trying to schedule the games and is actively getting ducked lol

And you again cited attendance as why there's no compelling reason to schedule the games, and again I say that that notion is silly. The compelling reason to schedule these games us the same reason Team USA and Hockey Canada schedule a million games against each other which is to better train their teams for a championship.

And lastly how do you propose that I get people to go to the games? I'm spending literally hours every week covering the program to let people know the team even exists. More people visit our site than visit BC's own athletics website. Is there something else I should be doing? People out here just don't care.

It's so easy to say "Just get people to go to the games, come on it's so easy!" and not propose any solutions when thousands of people already go to your games. I think it sucks but it kind of is what it is.

I also think that implying that I'm part of the problem by not going to every game because it's two hours away is also a dumb argument. You think I like not going?

Say you're a fan of BC's program. How do you propose magically tripling BC's attendance?

That's a serious question, I'd like to know your answer.

Nothing is magical; everything takes work on somebody's part. If you are willing to invest some of that work, then I'd suggest forming a booster club for women's hockey. That can lead to a number of events that can help attract and retain new fans. Cooperation from sports marketing is huge, and obviously, the coaching staff as well. But a club's existence benefits both, and they should recognize that.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

Raising an issue with scheduling between Minnesota and BC is fine and having a little fun with it is also fine, except that Mr. Congeniality chose to use throw in the word gutless. I'm sorry, that is not "awesome" trolling but, considering who wrote it, not surprising. Maybe he can challenge the Minnesota coaches and administration to "meet him at the rink" to work out the supposed scheduling slight BC feels.

mr. congeniality...that's a new one for me. all of you sensitive fans from the mid-west are too soft. you get so worked up over the truth...kind of like a certain wimp running the country.
cant you see that i was trying to re-introduce a topic that has been thrown out before by TTT? its been well know that MN and WI wont take BC games as long as 5 and 22 are in the lineup. if you don't think that's the definition of gutless then i'll assume you went to UM.
as for meeting at the rink...i would never, ever start a fight with any of you. i'm intimidated just posting here. you mid-westerners scare the crap out of me. heck, i'll buy you each a world famous UNH whoopie pie if the 3 teams make it to NH. just don't yell at me. i'm starting to get hyper sensitive myself.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

I mean if you think about it (please don't), I guess you gotta feel for the poor BC supporters. Like they said, they can't be blamed for how good their program is and how it makes the top western programs quake in their boots with fear over the prospect of playing the likes of Carpenter and Skarupa. That's evidently someone's version of the truth right there, although I thought BC players claimed they practice against the best players in women's college hockey everyday. So wouldn't it follow that a matchup with Minnesota (Wisconsin) would probably be a letdown?

From today's Star Tribune Girls Hockey Preview:

4. Future Gophers
Among the talented high school players committed to defending NCAA champion Minnesota are several who are two or three seasons from donning the Maroon and Gold: Emily Brown (Blaine, jr.), Crystalyn Hengler (Eden Prairie, soph.), Kippin Keller (Minnetonka, sr.), Katie Robinson (Kasson-Mantorville, sr.), Catie Skaja (New Prague, soph.), Taylor Wente (Maple Grove, jr.) and Grace Zumwinkle (Breck, jr.).

While some get a mention under their "20 Players to Watch" listing:

Emily Brown, jr., D, Blaine
Stay-at-home defenseman verbally committed to the Gophers.

Crystalyn Hengler, soph., D, Eden Prairie
Punishing defender who can spark the offense from the blue line.

Taylor Wente, jr., F, Maple Grove
Skills plus high hockey IQ equals difference-maker.

Grace Zumwinkle, jr., F, Breck
Tallied 64 points as a sophomore last season.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

To me this whole discussion is very simple. Not only do the Gophers not need to go out east to play BC/BU, it's not in their best interest.

OK...say we decide to BC or BU one weekend. That year it turns out UW is a top 2 team, UND, BSU and UMD are all top 10. That's 16 games right there. Sound feasible? Why does the team need to take what could be a #1 SOS nationally and make it even harder? Frankly, we have the #1 SOS right now. We need more average teams on our schedule...not more top ranked teams.

From a recruiting standpoint, what do the Gophers get? How many players do we recruit from New England? We're happy with our own recruiting grounds. Likewise, I don't think folks have anything against BC. But BC, BU, etc. get extremely valuable exposure to MN kids playing a school like the Gophers. So giving those schools a leg up in recruiting kids that might otherwise go to the Gophers doesn't seem like a super smart plan either.

So nothing to get upset about. The terms for playing the Gophers just needs be significantly in our favor or not at all.

And boom goes the dynamite...So simple even a preschooler would know it's all about western elitism. ;)

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

5mn, don't look now but you're making my argument. the reason you're league is considered "better" is because you have 2 good programs playing mediocre or worse programs. I don't know about you but the players want to play the best teams. they don't care about being "undefeated".
there's no way to tell if Bemidji beating MN is such an upset because you only gauge MN against WI. who's to say that Harvard is not better than WI or that NU is not better than Bemidji?
the problem is that you protect your team from tough outside opponents so the aura of the WCHA is not penetrated. the frozen 4 last year didn't help either...east should have played west. it would have helped promote the sport.
not saying the outcome would have been different...just that the teams involved were stuck playing each other for the 4th time.
I know I know I know...its by seed. I would bet that 99.999% of the crowd would have been happier if that was the case. the rest of the crowd (001%) are the posters on this thread.

i'm sure there will be games set up once 5 and 22 leave.

penetrate the aura....

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey 2015-2016: Confection Free

I don't think the league is purposefully ignoring eastern teams. The Midwest is just where the rivalries are. And to my earlier points, so are the recruiting grounds we care about and moderating the SOS does come into play. Finally, the PWR has not been particularly kind to UND or BSU...so its not like its been super awesome for either of those schools.

Even so, take week 3. UMD went to BC, SCSU went to Merrimack, UW went to Providence, MSU went to RIT, UND went to RPI, BSU went to Vermont and MN went to PSU. That's quite a few NC games...and the league did just fine. But if BC is the only team that counts as 'out east'...you'll probably be disappointed.

SSM is not a Minnesota high school.

OK, we agree on at least something.

But here it looks to me like you are saying that BC is never ever going to be good again after these two leave, that 5 and 22 are the last good players who will ever agree to play for the Eagles. On that, we do not agree.

no, but they wont be as good without them...for a long time.
hence the initial post with the bad word that begins with g
