Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

MN has the edge in goaltending

I haven't laughed so hard in years. Maybe you forgot the ;) at the end of your post.

In this corner, in the urine and marroooon uni's:
Kangass: 2.0116 gaa .939 save %
Patterson: 2.8800 gaa .900 save %

In this corner, in the cardinal and white uni's:
Bennett: 1.3373 gaa .931 save %
Gudmanson: 1.6328 gaa .938 save %

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

Take a look at the lines, and then look at the Defense. Thats a difficult combo to stop. pick your poison. A red hot goalie is the only thing that can do it.

And that isn't anything the rodents have currently on their roster.

Numbers can be deceiving but we'll let the players talk on the ice.

Well, Kangas and Patterson have played extremely well so far this season. Plus, I'm also looking at your schedule and see you're 3-2-1. So a loss isn't out of the question...

YEah its a little early to compare goaltending numbers but if I were neutral in this game i'd feel more comfortable with what UW has in net more then UM and i have seen all of both teams games...

Kangas hasn't been red hot the past couple of games? Did you even watch either of the Minnesota/UAA games? Kangas got left out to dry multiple times on Sunday and came up with some huge saves. If not for a fluky kind of goal Sunday, Kangas has a shutout.

Really? Well that's interesting cause Kangas and Patterson have looked great in every single game they've played. Goaltending has not cost the Gophers a single point this year. Wisconsin goaltending must be epic this year.

Scooby, Did you notice who you are responding to? In his mind, Wi is an unstoppable force. An unstoppable 3-2-1 force. "Take a look at the lines." They strike fear into opposing teams! And in the goalie comparison, never mind that WI having a "defense of the ages" might help the goalie numbers a tad. It's not worth it Scoobs.

I had forgotten about the "Defense of the Ages". How did that defense end up losing to Mansucko?

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

By making 2 huge mental errors and committing 2 major penalties in the 3rd period.

Didn't this weekend at least put a few drops in your glass?

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

Both things that any rational person would expect the "Defense of the Ages" to easily overcome.

At least if they're backed up by this fantastic goaltending tandem that TA thinks he has.

Sure, but that's practically irrelevant with this "Defense for the Ages" which by all accounts doesn't even need goaltenders.

Didn't this weekend at least put a few drops in your glass?

Good point.

Thats my point, our D doesn't let out goalies don't get left out to dry, they make the saves they have to and don't give up rebounds. The minnesota D is suspect (so far) and Kangas is known for giving up Shane Connelly like rebounds. When Kangas is good he is really good, when he is bad, well he is bad. He has average rebound control and with Minnesota playing team the put 95 SOG last weekend your D better be picking up there assignments... And with minnesota playing a team that only gave up 35 SOG all last weekend, 13 on Friday!!! I"d think about getting some pucks to the net. But like all Rivalry games both will likely be close...

Another X factor is Minnesota better stay alert, specially the D-man when Bennett is in goal because he is like Alex Stalock on red Bull and that puck will be up at your own blueline before you even notice it so if your D is not on its toes you can get caught in a line change in a sec.

Wow. Not only are your goalies epic but they have mad Alex Stalock offensive skills too? Awesome.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

I don't really give a ****, but wouldn't anybody just looking at the goaltending stats assume UW's have played better than Minnesota's this season?

And it's obviously all a moot point if Kangas/Patterson or Bennett/Gudmandson play like crap this weekend.

Wow, how does UW ever even lose? This is very similar to DU...a team of destiny, as Mike Chambers says. :)

Why would we assume that? Have you taken into account Wisconsin's "Defense for the Ages"? Or their goaltenders mad "Alex Stalock" skills?

Simple math, I reckon. ;)

But you're right, I didn't take into account the fact that UW does indeed have the best D-corps since the 2006 Canadian Olympic team.

ETA: From what I've seen, UW is average. Minny is average. Both games should be a toss up. With UW the clear favorite both nights. :D
