Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

But it's such boring hockey. I can't believe you guys spend money to watch your team trap, it's like watching paint dry. :D

Yep, why do you think Wild fans wanted to get rid of Lemaire and Risebrough? They wanted entertaining hockey and not the dreaded trap.

Chuck beat me to it, but I'd like to add...

Leave it to a Sconni fan to bring football up in a hockey thread. Who cares?

Meh...can't imagine the woofing about the football game that would have happened in this thread had the impossible happen and Minnesota won. I think a harmless picture or two of the axe was worthy...especially since you guys haven't seen it for like what...8 years? ;)

If you look back to post #707, you will see today's first mention of football. ;)

Two games down (won), two to go!

To be fair Chuck, it's not like the score was unexpected. Had Minnesota won (Hahahahahahahaha) it would have been deserved here since, let's be honest, Wisoconsin would have earned the ridicule. :D

Curious to hear if it's decision time in Madison:

Which goalie does 'Sconnie go with on Friday?
Longtime reader. Don't chip in much. Huge gopher fan. Two questions...Nate Schmidt played sparingly last year...why? Mark alt was solid at the end of last season. What happened? Schmidt looks great. Alt looks terrible. Holl has not improved much either. Disappointed to see alt and holl so far.

Maybe if Minny had done hail Marys all game, it would've happened.

As for Lemaire and company, they were safe when the team wasn't awful, and they got the boot because the team was no good. Like was said earlier: people tend to not mind their team trapping when it works.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

Awesome game tonight. Bad call on WI for "contact to the head," when there was no contact to the head. Happened to a MN guy this year, too. Refs are really over-calling that penalty that I've seen.

I'm happy with the 2 points. Rival on the road? I'll take it every time.

On to Jan!

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

Nice sweep on the road, they came back tonight and played much better and earned the 2pts.

Bucky student section are idiots chanting "Badger rejects" down 1-0 and 4-1, get a clue.

Grats to tDon on his 300th win!

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

No, that was the March 2012 Gophers;)
Wishful thinking on your part.

MN played motivated tonight, and what a world of difference that made. Aside from the mediocre 2nd period where the play was basically even, MN pretty well controlled the game tonight. Once they popped that 2nd goal, they pretty much owned the remainder of the 3rd period completely.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

Minnesota splits on the road and Bucky loses at home. That's a good weekend in my book.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

It would be nice to see a game between these two when BOTH teams show up. Bucky's feet were in cement all night but I bet Gopher fan will just say that was because of how superior the Gophers are.

Gophers definitely the better team tonight though. Good win for you

Did my eyes deceive, or did the Gophers trap? :p

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

A quick programming reminder...

Starting right now you can watch the Big Ten Icons show about Barry Alvarez! Gopher fans take note!

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

Well that looked a bit better.
Credit to WI, they are better than I thought they would be, although given their recent results I probably should have given them more credit instead of working off of preseason expectations.
They actually remind me of the Badgers from about 4-5 years ago who weren't really that great in possession but strong in their defensive end and dangerous on those quick transitions and creating odd man rushes.

Much better effort from MN tonight. Much more physical, making their presence felt in front of Patterson, and much tighter defensively. Those things seem to be just as much symptoms of as they are causes for success.

However, MN really needs to get their PP back on track. I said it heading into the weekend, and it was a point of consternation again tonight. Their ineffective PP nearly cost them the game last Saturday, it certainly didn't help them last night, and it kept tonight too close for too long. If MN wants to be among the elites this year, they need to get that PP to strike some fear into their opponents. Right now, I don't think it is.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: Secondary Rivalry, Just As Much Hatred

In watching these games, I think the biggest difference between the teams is Budish and Bjugstad. We just don't have an answer for them and even though they didn't put up a lot of points this weekend, they had to just wear our defense down.

I think we're hoping that Mersch and Barnes develop into that kind of presence, but they're not there yet. Those two (your guys) are beasts.

Well......yeah......duh. Winning! ;)

And bringing the Axe to the game seemed to be the downfall of the Badgers hockey squad. Too funny.
