Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

Literally the least mad I've been after a loss in quite some time. As soon as the clock hit 0.00 I just turned the page to tonight. I'm thinking the Gophers win by 4 or 5 goals.

If they play as well as they did last night, hard to see them only scoring once. I do expect UW to play a bit better then they did last night, but a lot of the Badgers poor play had to do with the Gophers. That might be as dialed in as I have seen the Gophers play since that second game against BC.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

Gophers should have won, blame it on the forwards, who didn't convert on several golden opportunities. We tend to blame the D when things don't go our way, but this one's definitely on the forwards, who failed to convert on multiple golden "Grade A" chances. Defensively the Gophers played very well, I thought, except for the breakdown which led to the Badgers' winning goal. Overall: the Gophers deserved to win this one, but they didn't!

More times than not, when the gophers lose (or tie) its due to the fact that the forwards don't carry their weight. In 3 of our 5 ties, we scored 2 goals. In 2 of our losses, we scored one goal and two goals in the other one. And several other games, goals by defense made the difference. The defense gets way too much unwarranted flak...much of it due to the fact that posters don't understand the position.

Having said that, the team played harder than it has in other recent games...and could easily have won it.

Seriously?? You're comparing us playing Michigan State to you guys playing your archrival? Wow.

The crowd last night was sad, I'm not denying that, but hockey in is suppose to be religion in Minnesota, and yet there was huge clumps of empty seats all around the lower bowl last Friday. Pretty crappy showing for the #1 team in the country against a "name" school.

It could be another nail biter though. Bucky had primarily one major line...Zengerle and Kerdiles. If due to gopher speed and depth...they (and/or the team at large) wears down...your prediction will happen.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

Last night on the way home, on a radio interview Eaves said something like, "...it wasn't a quality win, but a win against a quality opponent....." Agreed.

RE: Thurs-Fri series, it ****ing sucks and is for the BTN only. Students have early classes; people have jobs that may start early in the AM. And don't compare this to basketball in mid-week. Different breeds. I hate Big Ten hockey (until they get 10+ legit teams) and I hate what the BTN is doing to hockey.

Oh and by the way, I DVR'd the game last night and have been watching this morning; the 2 clowns that do play-by-play are absolutely horrible. Andringa is behind the glass and doing better commentary than these dolts.

I'm just trying to think positive :D

Wrong there. BTN rocks. I can watch the Gophers or Bucky whether I'm living in Hartford or Salt Lake City. Except for football and basketball dynasty schools, the national exposure is unrivaled..how can you beat that? BTN2GO means I watch games from even months ago...at any time. Kelly, Clymer and Andringa are all strong. And I've seen WI local broadcast announcers...let's just say, not good.

Absolutely agree and the color guy they use in the studio can't talk without tripping over his own tongue. BTN has a lot of room to improve their on-air teams. Andringa is easily the best they've got.

This is 100% correct.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

Anyway outside of UW playing really boring hockey the outcome did not go as planned. Oh well, Gophers still lead the series, are ahead in the standings and will and not require a double digit PWR rating for the NCAAs.

I said "I hate what the BTN is doing to hockey. I don't hate the BTN. Kelly and Clymer are strong? Are you ****ing kidding me? If they are the "face" of B1G hockey and I'm watching, it's hello WIBA simulcast. RE: WI TV announcers, we really don't have any! PB is a hold-over from the public broadcasting days of tape delay. He is not nor was not, the face of WCHA or B1G hockey. Our radio guy, Brain Posick, is 2nd to none.

Hey, at least your get some games on TV. What's that about beggers can't be choosers, or something to that effect.

Clymer played in the NHL and has done a stand-up job for the BTN and FSN with the color call. I'd say if anything he tries too hard to sound impartial.

That said, if you have complaints I suggest you stop by GPL and <a href="http://www.gopherpucklive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11917>let Rick Pizzo know</a>. Unless of course the BTN has taken the time to stop by and ask you guys your thoughts on the broadcasts??

1. At least you're getting TV coverage (your program isn't exactly blessed here)

2. I live in Milwaukee and get to see the absolutely atrocious coverage you do get, and if that's your Gold standard for quality than that's comical.

3. Tell the BTN your gripes. Let's see who they listen to more.

Again they're not comparable events, but it's true all logic courses at UW required a toke on a hooka before class started.

You sound like you just got swept :D Are you giving up on tonight already? I see the goofs are no longer #1 in the PWR - ouch - but BC is #1 and I hate BC.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

Is BTN perfect? Far from it. They have work to do in cleaning up their overall operation for hockey broadcasts. But keep in mind, this is their first FULL season broadcasting hockey. In the past they had just picked up the games they wanted along the way.

I have a hard time complaining about a network that has made a concerted effort to show more college hockey this season. Even if the night of the week or start time aren't what everyone would consider "ideal".

Well said Wes.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

I've got no issues with BTN at this point.

Love the HD broadcasts & I was in Florida 2 weeks ago and could watch the game against OSU. Pretty sure they don't get FSW down there.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin: 2/6 & 2/7

On top of what I said in my previous post, I'll echo what mnstateofhockey said about Pizzo. I give BTN(and specifically Pizzo for posting on GPL) credit for listening to the fans and valuing their input and (hopefully) adjusting. It at least appears as if they care and are willing to do what it takes to make their broadcasts more enjoyable for the fans/viewers.
