Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

Pitchers and BabyJesus have reported, the rest of the team will soon.

The Twins are moving into the brand new Target Field, but BabyJesus is still not signed long-term.

The team looks as strong as it has been in a long time, here is what I expect to be the opening day lineup/roster, and its pretty impressive:

Span, CF
Hudson, 2B
Mauer, C
Morneau, 1B
Cuddyer, RF
Kubel, DH
Young, LF
Hardy, SS
Punto, 3B

Starting Pitchers:
Baker
Pavano
Blackburn
Slowey
Liriano

Relievers:
Nathan
Guerrier
Condrey
Rauch
Mijares
Perkins
*with Neshek being the wildcard

Bench:
Thome
Harris
Morales (or a replacement backup catcher if he's not off of the IR)
Casilla
1 other...possibly Valencia?

I'd still like to see them get Felipe Lopez and play him at 3rd (which I believe he has done before). His price has to have dropped by now.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

Breaking News: No more Dome Dogs. :(. On another note I really don't like Glen Perkins.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

My lineup:

Span, CF
Hudson, 2B
Mauer, C
Morneau, 1B
Cuddyer, RF
Kubel, LF
Thome, DH
Hardy, SS
Harris/Punto, 3B

Delmon bats vs. lefties and we are going to score consistently if Kubel or Cuddyer has a solid season. I suspect our pitching is still going to be poor, but hopefully good enough to win the Central.

I don't know, I think our pitching might have a shot to rebound this season. Liriano has supposedly been throwing well in winter ball, Baker just needs to get his early innings act together, Slowey was our best pitcher last season until he got hurt.

Who knows what we'll get from a full season of Pavano, maybe Blackburn can be more consistent.

Am I a little too hopeful? Perhaps, but it's spring training, there is always room to hope in spring training.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

The starters were way too inexperienced last year. I think that one extra year for each of them and the added presence of Pavano will have an impact. I expect them to be better, they won't be world beaters, but I expect some improvement.

I thought Slowey took a MAJOR step backwards last year. The run support he received masked how badly he pitched. Hopefully the bad pitching was due to arm problems that have been straightened out.

The rest of the guys are mysteries as well. I think they may be good in the Central, but I don't see any of them becoming all-stars. The bullpen still looks a wreck, but I'm guessing they will get by. Gardy is pretty good at playing the hot hand.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

All this talk of hot dogs is making me hungry for ballpark food! Speaking of which, I bet it takes a few years* before we see the "all-you-can-eat seats" gimick at Target Field :D

*Unless the organization steps hard on its Johnson and Mauer is not re-signed; then, they might have to have an "all-you-can-eat stadium" deal :( :o

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

One of my favorite threads every year!:) I'm looking forward to seeing how good Slowey can be, and all the talk about Liriano regaining his slider makes my expectations for this baseball team very high.

Liriano getting his slider back would be all well and good, but even if that happens (which I doubt he returns to his original wicked self) he still needs to develop an off-speed pitch that he can use more than 5 times per game.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: The Return of Outdoor Baseball

I got my season ticket confirmation in the mail last week. Hopefully going to get those babies printed and mailed soon!

I can't wait. If it's worth it I'm definitely going to be upgrading those next year. I can't wait to play hooky from work and just sit out in the sun, drink beer, eat brats. I can think of maybe two things that are better than that.

Blackburn to start in Thursday's first spring training game!

MLB 2K10 out tomorrow, just getting me more and more excited for this season to start!
