Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}
AJ's best season (the last one with the Twins) had these numbers:
11 HR / .312 avg / .360 OBP / .464 SLG / .824 OPS. Since then, his highest OPS has been .769, and his highest OBP has been .333. His HR totals went up for the most part, but that's the only offensive stat that saw any improvement.
Mauer's worst season (his first full one / second overall):
9 HR / .294 avg / .372 OBP / .411 SLG / .783 OPS
So, his best is fairly comparable to Mauer's worst, and since he was traded, every season has compared unfavorably (except for his HR output) to these "subpar" Mauer stats.
Speaking of the baby Jesus, his six seasons (not counting the first short one) have been equally split between mediocre (for him) and good (assuming this one remains similar to what he's doing so far).
The mediocre seasons (2005, 2007, 2010):
Avg: .294, .293, .297
HR: 9, 7, 3 (projects to 6-7)
OBP: .372, .382, .373
OPS: .783, .808, .799
The good seasons (2006, 2008, 2009):
Avg: .347, .328, .365
HR: 13, 9, 28
OBP: .429, .413, .444
OPS: .936, .864, 1.031
Maybe he's bipolar.
