Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part IV - Thome's Quest for 600

Wouldn't game 3 be a road game? Or if the Twins don't have home field, game 1 could be a road game.
Maybe he meant 1st and 3rd home games of the series.

That'd work out to games 1 and 5 if they host, games 3 and 6 if they are on the road.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part IV - Thome's Quest for 600

I'm sorry but all this playoff ticket talk, who cares. At this rate anyone with tickets outside the first two home games won't be using them.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part IV - Thome's Quest for 600

No its not. But this doesn't look like a team capable of winning a series right now either. Sorry if I lack confidence watching a 10-1 drubbing by the Royals and seeing that team score 20 runs in two games. This is not a team that can just "turn it on" at playoff time.

If by playoff team you mean:

Then I think you're mistaken... 13 of our 32 ABs were taken by guys who won't even sniff a game in the playoffs.

No mauer, no thome. Pitchers are at best emergency relievers. Color me unconcerned.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part IV - Thome's Quest for 600

Pavano was rocked for 7 runs, Liriano 4 in less than 4 innings, Duensing 5 in 6 and 2/3, Slowey 6 in 1 and 2/3 and Blackburn gave up 8 tonight. These are not emergency relievers. I get they can't hit because guys are hurt or resting but 46 runs in 5 games is unacceptable, especially when these games are not meaningless.

Pitching is a mental game. WHen these guys know they are coming out after just a handful of innings anyways, they aren't going to go out there and throw their arm off. They're going to mail it in like the friday of memorial day weekend.

I don't disagree that it may be of some concern, but come on, the Rays and Yankees are doing the same thing (except with their full rosters).

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010: Part IV - Thome's Quest for 600

The Rays and Yankees have 2 and 1 1/2 game leads on us. Right now all i'm seeing here are bogus excuses.

Now they do, yes. Before last night it was a game and a half game. Gardy said right off the bat that he didn't give a rip about homefield and was more concerned about getting the lineup rest.

I am concerned about the pitching, but I always being a Twins fan and all.

Gardy must know we have about a .0001% chance of getting out of the first round so the home field doesn't mean anything.

Willing to put money on those odds?

Does money somehow make my opinion more valid?

There is no reason to believe they are going to do better until they actually do better. The last time they got out of the first round Denny freakin Hocking was on the team.

What he meant -- I'm guessing -- is that if the odds are 0.0001%, then a person should bet (happily) one dollar, because if he wins you would owe him thousands. And that you would have to be supremely confident to offer someone those odds. Heck, I'd bet on any random event if putting out $1 could net me a hundred grand or so. :)

Could someone please pitch around this Hawaiian dude?

Well except that no one would pay those odds in a bet. The bet would simply be will the Twins make the 2nd round. So $1 would net him $1. :D

Maybe. I still see them getting beyond the first round.

Exactly. (although your last statement makes me wonder if you dump a lot of money into powerball? ;) )

That isn't fun anymore...

It does sound bad when you put it that way. :p

Hey hey, two men on in the 4th!

EDIT: Never mind. Grrr.

Then find odds for that scenario. No way would I do that bet straight up.

And yeah, stop pitching to Hakuna Matata.

OUCH. OFF THE CUP. THE *ING CUP.
