Minnesota State University Maverick Hockey: 2012-2013 Season Thread

Re: Minnesota State University Maverick Hockey: 2012-2013 Season Thread

Any Kato fans ever been down to Omaha? The fam and I are going to make the trip down. I'd love to see at least a split this weekend. I really think if our boys play like they have been the last few weekends (especially the last two) a split or better is VERY realistic.
I think one year Big clean, CCFC, and some guys went down; had an absolute blast from what I remember.

Omaha is fun town, have gone both times SCSU has been there since UNO joined. Wish I could remember more places to recommend but they were THOSE kinda trips. :D

I have to look to some more family-friendly type of activities. Going to have my wife and boys with.

Have yet to be in Omaha, always one I have wanted to make the trip for. Have fun if you make the trip Bale!

Been there back when they couldn't have beatin' the Spring Lake Park HS JV squad... wasn't with CCFC tho. Was a darn nice arena 8 years ago. Much nicer then the old memorial where the old AHL Ak-Sar-Ben Knights played (what a dump).

Speakin' of Clarky the in-laws had dinner with his in-laws, hear he's living large and in-charge coaching that NAHL team, anyone heard how that's going for him beyond the warm and fuzzy's?

Plenty of restaurant/bar selections in the area. Rick's is right there, the Old Market is a couple of blocks away, and there are plenty of new places because of the new TD Ameritrade built for the college world series. Fun town, nice and clean, low crime. Take the kids to the zoo (about 3-4 miles directly south of the zoo) Saturday morning for a great experience.

curtism, Shilly, and I went down one year. Mavs came back in the third period to tie the game, and Jonny Kalinski scored the game-winner in OT. It was a really fun trip, though it was a Tuesday night game where we drove down that day and back home after the game, so we didn't explore much of the town.

Shoot, didn't even realize a question was raised. I talked about going with stateofhockey back in the day, never went down to Homo-ha with anyone other then the wife to be and the in-laws. I will tell you all this. If you want a nice place to make a road trip to, Omaha isn't a bad choice. Halfway decent town, the weathers a bit more temperent and UNO has a nice arena. Better drive then Haughton any day of the week.

By the way, purple Mavs, good luck the rest of the season. I didn't get that said in the series thread. Glad to see that the fortunes of war have improved so much for you. I must say, considering who your head coach now is, I am not surprised.

I'm not really happy that Mike Hastings got away from us. Don't know if the following is known to you or general knowledge there, but, here is why:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsOTMP2NgRA

The really important sentence is uttered at the 50 second mark or so.

The video is from 2009.

If Matt Schick looks oddly familiar to you it's because he left KETV here in Omaha back in July to take the gig as the new college in-studio host on ESPNU.

During the third period of this past Saturday night's game, a discussion got going in the general area of where I was sitting that involved other season ticket holders sitting around me and a group of your fans that were to our immediate left. The gist of the conversation was this:

Would Mike Hastings be offered the Head Coaching job at UNO when Coach Blais decides to hang them up? The consensus was that he would be a serious candidate and one of the first people that Trev Alberts calls when the time comes. I was a part of that consensus.

That said, this isn't going to happen, I don't think, until we have at least one year in our new arena under our belt. We won't be in that building before 2015 or 2016. So, we are looking 5 or 6 years down the road and a lot can happen in that time frame, that's for sure. Something to keep in the back of your mind. It's sure in the back of mine.

Hope to see you in St Paul.

Merry Christmas lil' Maverick fans, best wishes from the bigclean to you and yours. May your trees be lined with MSU gear, your stockings filled with Gopher jerky and Husky pelts and visions of Final 5 and NCAA trips dance in your head.

Corey Leivermann will transfer to D-3 Gustavus Adolphus.

Hope all goes well for him. Just wasn't quite there skating wise, but very talented.

Is anyone aware of a video feed for today's game against Brown?

Re: Minnesota State University Maverick Hockey: 2012-2013 Season Thread

MN State slips by Brown 3 -1 to advance to the championship game. I believe they will be playing in the late game.

Great weekend... now I just hope they don't look past Providence because they're an interesting fit against our beloved Mavs

I hope they're not looking past a team with a winning record. I know it's a non-conference series, but we're certainly not good enough to take a team of the Friars' caliber lightly.
