It's good to be a cow.

We are so gracious to you guys for Mike. It's just so awesome what he's done thus far with a team that was 11th in the WCHA last year.

BTW, tonight was win 13, which is one more than ALL of last season.

Re: Minnesota State University Maverick Hockey: 2012-2013 Season Thread

Ten wins in the last eleven games. This is fun!

Keep on rolling. Until you play the Gophers, of course. ;)

Backes committed to MSU when he was in high school. Maybe if he didn't play Juniors and came to MSU right out of High School they would have red shirted him. MSU has had a few kids come right out of high school that never really developed like they should have. Redshirting him coming out of Lincoln? Come on..

Long story, again won't go into it... relative to part of the reason why he ended up at MSU.

Good start to the weekend, agreed that it sounded like a hard fought game. Anyone have any insight on Lafontaine, he started the year pretty hot and looked pretty good when I saw him earlier in the year, and he's been pretty low-key as of late.

Low key?

From the MSU press release this week:

Jean-Paul Lafontaine Notes: Sophomore forward J.P. Lafontaine, who has not missed a game in his two-year MSU career has 6-11--17 in the last 14 games. A member of the 2011-12 WCHA All-Rookie Team, Lafontaine ranks second on MSU’s scoring charts with 6-12--18, and owns 19-27--46 in 58 career games. Lafontaine, who scored twice in MSU’s 3-1 victory over Brown last Saturday, got his first career game-winning goal in the win over the Bears. His second goal of the game was is second empty-netter on the year (he also had one in MSU’s 5-3 victory over Minnesota Nov. 3).

LaFontaine didn't score last night but he was pretty **** good, IMO.

Well, what will attendance be like tonight? School's still out and the Vikings playing the Packers. There might be about 10 of us at the civic center. A note of interest (for me, anyway) one of my alma maters, DePaul, is also playing Providence tonight in bouncyball.

Great sweep by the Mavs! At least one purple team won tonight.....

Re: Minnesota State University Maverick Hockey: 2012-2013 Season Thread

I should have went to the hockey game tonight, but no, I had to watch the Vikings on TV.

I was just looking at your schedule and if you guys can keep this up, you've got at least a shot at being there at the end, it looks like. It's a realistic expectation to win your next 4 games in my book. If you did that, a split with the Gophers might serve you just fine and then you play 6 more winnable games in a row although games at Duluth & CC are not gimmes. If you did manage to go, say, 9-3 or 8-4 between now and the time you get North Dakota there to end the season, that series would probably be pretty important in the WCHA race--for them, you, and more than likely, some others. It's a 6 horse race, now, with UNO in the lead. However, I can also see us doing something similar. My (hopeful) guess is that we go 10-4 or so the rest of the way, as our schedule, like yours, is very favorable. Both UNO's and Mankato's remaining schedules are two of three easiest remaining in the league. UNO is in kind of uncharted waters--for us. You guys, however, have had some monstrous seasons back in the day under Don Brose, albeit mostly at the D-II level. The rest of the season is going to be fun.

The year of the Maverick.

Nice weekend against a quality team. Let's keep it going against the Badgers. One complaint, one question - Idiotic and disrespectful to schedule Senior Night when the students were out of town. Hayes, Elbrecht, et. al, deserved a bigger crowd, and the students deserved a chance to share in that. Now, on a more positive note, Herdon had 4 quality games while Teddy was at the WJC. Has he done enough to deserve to stay in the lineup? And if so, who sits?

Herndon may play in place of Zuck. Will be interesting to see what happens.

I'd be surprised by that. Zuck is still a pretty valuable penalty killer regardless of whether he is scoring or not.

Re: Minnesota State University Maverick Hockey: 2012-2013 Season Thread

I agree, Zuck is valuable. Herndon has played well and it is nice to see him step in.
As far as ranking goes, I will take it as a biproduct of playing well and wining games.
I just hope they can A) get home ice B) get to the X C) make the tourney. Is that too much to ask?

The goal is C. Get C. done and A and B are probably already taken care of. (by getting C done stay right about where we are in the pair wise or higher.)

That's probably correct. By my math, the magic number is eight wins in the final 14 regular season games, and winning the playoff series to feel pretty good about getting into the tournament.
