Minnesota State: Take the Next Step 2019-2020

If they still go ahead with the Hobey Baker, I really hope Michaelis makes the top 3. For that matter, I think the thing for the committee to do is to put all seniors in the top 10. The class that didn't get a chance to finish should at least be recognized in that way. For the outstanding juniors, sophs, and freshmen, feel free to come back next year and win it.

I am really curious as to what they do. You’d think McKay has a great Mike Richter Award case as well.

Re: Minnesota State: Take the Next Step 2019-2020

Marc Michaelis and Dryden McKay both named as Top 10 Finalists for the 2020 Hobey Baker Award, which is announced on a Friday April 10th on NHL Network.

Great recognition of both players. Either may have a legit shot at the top 3, but it will be a tough route to the top 3 for either. Has Michaelis not missed 7 games, I think he’d have a pretty legit shot at the whole thing.

Sounds like that was the likely destination for quite some time.

Next year’s team is going to have a lot of role changes for guys who need to step up and fill some massive skates.

We’re going to need more offense out of the D, particularly losing Scheid and Mackey, who usually ran the point on the PP, and often jumped into the rush. So who has seen these BCHL kids play? They put up some nice numbers in that league, but sometimes there’s a leap from that league to NCAA D1

7 missed games stood between Michaelis and the Hobey Hat Trick, if not the whole thing, really.

I was shocked to see Swayman in there over McKay, however the eastern and national media who saw Swayman play regularly had given indicators they favored Swayman due to how many shots he took over McKay.

Non conference opponents I’m aware of next year:

Icebreaker vs. Providence - Oct. 9th
Icebreaker vs. UMD/UMN - Oct 10th

St. Cloud State series

Minnesota Duluth Series (in Mankato)

Shane Frederick is stepping down in his role as sports editor of the Mankato Free Press and will be moving out of newspaper. 20 years of coverage of a Maverick Hockey. Will miss his stuff!

Solid schedule. Our new faces in the lineup -and there will be several!- will get tested early. Would be nice to add a home series in late November or early December. Haven’t seen the red Mavs in a few years.

Looks like it won’t be Omaha.

I would imagine we’d see one more non conference series Thanksgiving weekend.

A team out East would be my guess.
