They want a $37 million endowment to start D-I hockey and have 40 percent of that in "soft commitments". Nothing earth shattering will be happening this afternoon.

Moorhead: We're going D1 hockey! ... once we complete our risk analysis, double check our expense/revenue predictions. And find a donor who has $37 mil available.
They're still years out. Unless Pegula's got a brother in the Dakotas.

AD Doug Peters thinks they have 3 months to figure it out. They are looking for donors if anyone here wants to step up. They have "soft commitments" for 15 million that are only for D-I hockey. No hockey, no 15 million.

AD Peters has not spoken with McLeod, but they've talked to most of the WCHA ADs.

They've talked to ADs at BSU, SCSU, and UMD (other Minnesota schools) about what budgets would need to look like.
Specifically, not for Dragon Athletics but specifically Dragon Hockey.

Wow! Soft commitments for 15mil. already if the team is announced.
Have NOT talked with McLeod in the last two weeks.
AD and Pres have been in talks with the smaller Minn schools (Bemidji, Mankato, and St. Cloud). Caught those teams off guard by how quietly they've put this program together.
Continued push. Says there is "three months" to get the ball rolling. They're using the openings in the conferences to push this through. Definitely could be fast-tracked to WCHA by 13-14 (in my opinion).

They're railing HARD on the WCHA, and what it would look like in the future. But they want to jump into this with both feet.

3 months is MSUM's "window of opportunity" according to Peters. Hurricane Edna (MSUM President) is okay with being an independent for a few years, while she previously said they wouldn't go D-I without a conference.
