You haven't made an EZAC joke about what I said yet. ;) RC is caller 1.
Have a cookie

Ang Lee is making a documentary about ECAC hockey. Working title is "Wun Dun"

Ok, I see it. I guess I am was more on the page of he/they are still MN hockey products developed through the youth progams and up. Shattuck technically is a private high school/boarding school that does not compete in the MSHL.

Regardless, the talent pool of MN players is rich.

Agreed that Minnesota high school hockey is the model that other states should follow.

But elite US players are coming from all over the place now as evidenced by the WCHA awards last season. The AAA model is working is California, Colorado, Texas and other non-traditional states. They are producing exciting players.

Agreed, and the National Development model is taking some of the top players out of Minnesota. For instance, Hudson Fasching, Taylor Cammarata (Shattucks but he is almost a shoe-in for the NTDP), etc....

Despite having half the population as Michigan, Minnesota still has more registered hockey players. Yes, other states are catching up, but IMHO, I don't think you will ever see California, Texas, Florida, Nevada, etc... pass Minnesota, Michigan, Mass, New York, etc... in terms of number of players produced.

Yes, the days of Minnesota exclusively recruiting Minnesota players and remaining competitive is probably gone (though name another school outside of Boston that has ever been able to do that), but Minnesota still has a tremendous advantage of having one of the deepest talent pools in this country in their own back yard. UMTC is in a lull, but it would be foolish to think that this program won't rebound.

I think you and I aren't too far a part in understanding. I think we were just misinterpreting each other. I concede your point that Minnesota high school hockey isn't what it once was. And considering the battle going on right now (Minnesota Made fiasco), it may never be the same again. However, Minnesota is still a hockey powerhouse and probably always will be.

How many of these WCHA players, played high school hockey in Minnesota? [Dean Blais doesn't count :)]

Compare it to ten years ago. Go Dragons.

This is the first I've heard of this.

Minnesota wins the 2002 & 2003 National Championships with Mankato, SCSU, Duluth in the WCHA and Bemidji State playing in the CHA.

Most seasons Minnesota plays 75% of their games within the state [plus 100% of WCHA playoff games] or just over border in Grand Forks.

Minnesota's recent problems are due to the decline of Minnesota high school hockey talent, not over saturation of the college game in the state.

Damian what happened many years ago can happen to any state that continues to add college hockey teams. At one time University of Minnesota was the only guy in college hockey in the upper midwest they were recruiting against no one. Eventually other schools started to get into the icebox thus creating more recruiting competition for the Gophers. Every kid in the early days only had one outlet to hopefully further their playing career. IMO, MN high school hockey are better players from the fourth line to the first line than they were 10 to 20 years ago. What is happening the elite of the elite are leaving but many first line players on great teams are still around or many of them decided not to leave for Ann Arbor etc.

The question is will Fargo residents go to Moorhead State athletic events, even if they are played at the Scheels Center. This is a very cliquey town.

Do Fargo residents know that hockey does exist in their town and that it doesn't involve the Bison football team? :D :p

most residents do, it's just that the Fargo Forum does not realize hockey exists here

Agreed. It wasn't my intention to bash Minnesota high school hockey. Just to point out that IMO the Gophers recent troubles haven't anything to do with the other colleges in the state.

Adding Moorhead would be a boost to college hockey after a difficult week. Hope it happens.
