Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

I do have to share your sentiments Mavs. Shutting the program does seem a little extreme, IMO, but you're right. If MSU as a university cared about becoming competitive, Jutting would have been gone a long time ago. Nothing against Troy, he's a good interview/person and knows the game but it seems to me that this team and program has done all they can under Jutting's regime. The question is though, would MSU buy Jutting out, and where do they look for their next coach?

Maybe Craig Dahl would be interested.

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

I have been a season ticket holder for the past 10 years and I am seriously considering not to renew my tickets for 2011-12 season. How many years do we go with out making it to the final five or the NCAA tournment? Will this be the year we make it to the final five? I highly don't think we will.. How many years do we wait around until we do something about our coaching? This program is going down the tubes with the current coach and athletic director.. All I hear is we can't pay for a high profile coach.. Dam it get out and do some fundraising, I know of some companies in town that would donate if they would just get out there and ask. These companies have never been approached...

That is what we hear.

But a high profile coach will pay for himself.
High Profile coach = more wins
More wins = Final 5 appearance (maybe a trip to the National Tourney)
More wins = more tickets sold
But that is way too much for Buisman to comprehend.

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

I've had season tickets for 11 years, the same time Jutting's been head coach. In that time we've gotten home ice twice (50% of teams get home ice, we've had it 18% of the time) we've gone to the final five once and the NCAA once. What other D-I program in any sport at any university would keep a coach with that record?

If I had to decide today, I would not renew my tickets.

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

If the Anchorage series was any indication, it wasn't just the players who didn't pick up the slack, it was the fans. Yes, I know MSU was on break and students get 1,500 tickets blah blah blah. Friday night was the lowest attended conference game of the season (Yes, even lower than the Sunday "snownami" makeup). If this team had a loyal fan base, people would come regardless of who was in town/the circumstances of the series, and unfortunately, until a change comes to the Mavs, it'll still be a fickle turnout outside of the Gophers.

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

By the Anchorage series, going on the road for the playoffs, again, was already assured. Fans continuing to show "loyalty" just sends the message that everything is fine.

I was there, but I fully understand the people who found something better to do. I almost stayed home on Saturday.

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

Well, once again it's over in the first round. One trip to the Final Five in eleven years under Jutting. He's been talking about Mankato needing to get some "bounces." That's BS. They get the same bounces everybody else does, they just don't convert them. Nothing is going to change. He'll be back behind the bench next year; I probably won't be back in the seats I've had for the same eleven years.

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

From a Denver fans standpoint, MSUM gave us all we wanted. DU only led for about 3 minutes the whole weekend, as MSUM's forecheck gave us fits getting the puck out of the zone, pounding our defense all weekend, and winning most of the loose puck battles.

MSUM skates hard, plays physical and positionally sound. The Pioneers played just well enough to advance, but these were very close games that easily could have gone either way.

That was the whole season. The Mavericks probably lead the league in one-goal losses (especially if you count two-goal losses that included a late empty-netter.) The thing is, they almost never go the other way. I, and many other Maverick fans, are really tired of hearing, year after year, about how they "gave teams all they could handle" and how they give other teams "fits." The fact remains that Jutting has exactly two winning seasons in eleven years, one final five appearance, one NCAA appearance. This is Division I, and if the university is happy with that type of performance, then they don't belong in Division I.

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

I totally agree with your response... When are we going to see a thread on hear stating JUTTING HAS BEEN FIRED!!! Probably never!!

This is the way MSU plays SCSU every single game. They are a hard nosed team that wears you down. I think Jutting gets these guys to play as a team and maximizes their performance. I can understand your frustration. Just be careful, the grass is not always greener on the other side. UNO has a big time coach, and they will be watching the games in St. Paul this weekend.

And then, the following week UNO will be playing in the National Tournament.

The grass isn't always greener? Where else can we possibly go at this point? The only team that we can realistically say that we are better than year-in and year-out is Tech. At some point, this program NEEDS to have a single winning season. We're pretty realistic in Kato that we're not and are not going to a be a conference power, but to go 11+ seasons between Final Five/National Tournament appearances is ridiculous. After this year, the only team in the conference that hasn't been in the FF since our last appearance is UNO. That's just not acceptable for any schoole.

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

Maybe, They are now a bubble team and have no control over their destiny. It's possible their season is over.

Just how much browner can it get, unless Tech leaves the league? This is Blais's first year with UNO, and they got home ice for the playoffs. For some reason they did not match up with Bemidji all year, but I expect them to be even better next year. We have no hope in Mankato.

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

We need a new coach, or we are going to turn into Michigan Tech..(No offense huskies..)

this program is going nowhere right now, and with the Big 10 forming, it's looking bleak ahead.

What does everyone think of this big 10 thing? Man does this suck.

IMO, the WCHA's going to come out fine in this. You saw what happened with a Gopher/Badgerless Final Five, the fans still came out in force. My bigger concern is the CCHA. If the WCHA WERE to successfully recruit Norte Dame and Miami the CCHA would more or less cease to exist. As for UAH, I say bring them on. Yes, they may be a miserable program now, but the FF is in Tampa/St. Pete next season. Ironically, the bid was co-sponsored by UAH. If this FF is a remote success, having UAH in your conference opens the key to the American Southeast which is quickly starting to produce quality players (Chris Kamal, Anchorage's starting goalie, a native of suburban Atlanta, comes to mind for me) which would then lead to an expansion of the game.

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

Well, here we are, winding down a season that might very well end in the ignominy of being the first WCHA team to finish in 11th place. Thank heavens for Tech. I've been a season-ticket holder for eleven years. I'm hard pressed right now to think of a reason to renew for a twelfth.

Sadly, I can relate to this sentiment. I gave up my UNO season tickets for two years because I was dissatisfied with then Head Coach Mike Kemp, (who is a good guy but a coach that took us just so far) and I told then AD Bob Danenhauer I had no intention of renewing until he was gone. A year later both he and Mike Kemp where gone and the fortunes of war have changed for us dramatically. Now, I am back, and, seeing what I signed on for 14 years ago.

If you feel that strongly, then you have to speak with your pocketbook and make it happen. Money talks and BS walks.

You guys are our next road trip, the boss and I have decided. Mankato is nice town. Hope you right the ship up there.

Cows rule. Red, not purple, though.

This is a very true statement. I just have that part of me that hates this some much i want to see the Big ten absolutely struggle miserabley. A 6 team conference? shouldn't work too well. Expansion of the game is something though that would be huge for the sport. Pros and cons to everything!

Appreciate the support Red, it's just so frustrating with Jutting at the helm. People who don't even know hockey say he should be canned, now c'mon, you can't be mr. nice guy always mr. Kevin Busiman..
