Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

I miss the Mavs.... they looked so good tonight

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

It was seventeen games. That was the Shane Joseph - Grant Stevenson team. That was fun.

The good 'ol days, eh?

Well, the Mavs hace shown signs of being competitive with some good teams at the halfway mark, and Cook has shown he's the real deal. I'd say if this team stays healthy, they have a shot at the 6 spot in the standings. They really work hard, and the style of play the last few series has been much better than the rest of the season. Should be a fun second half, can't wait for it to get rolling!

Merry Christmas Maverick fans!:)

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

Typical Maverick squad, a couple of pretty talented kids are being supported by a bunch of hardwork. They'll be tough in t he 2nd Half, if they don't get home ice, I pity the team that draws them in the WCHA tourney.

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

What's this thread doing on the first page?
I hope they play well in the holiday tournament and bring some confidence into the 2nd half as well. It should be fun to watch.

How many years have we heard that? How many trips to the Final Five do we have?

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

Not enough... I get that, I've been saying that for a decade (coincidentally about the same time Jutting came in). But we are fans, it's our job to back them, so i will back them.

Yeah, my first year of season tickets was Jutting's first year at the helm. I'm cursed.

I'll back them, but I'm no longer going to try to delude myself.

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

Well, my intentions are to make the two AIC games. Anyone want to say hello, I'll have a Detroit Tigers jacket that says "Oneonta" on it. (Oneonta Tigers were the SS-A affiliate of the Tigers for 10 years)

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

Good couple of wins this weekend, hopefully we can take care of business against AIC and come into the second half of the conference schedule with some hop in their step and make a run. I would love a reason to go to St. Paul on a Thursday night, or is it on a Tuesday, or a Wednesday. Boy I have to pay attention to the playoff schedule with 12 teams now!!

My sincere apologizes.... at least he doesn't live next door... I still chuckle over some of the stupid stuff I've heard about Smoky over the years....

Well, here we are, winding down a season that might very well end in the ignominy of being the first WCHA team to finish in 11th place. Thank heavens for Tech. I've been a season-ticket holder for eleven years. I'm hard pressed right now to think of a reason to renew for a twelfth.

It is tough. I've been in the building for every home game minus St. Lawrence and AIC this year. The one thing the Mavs had going for them, IMO, was that despite their record they'd give a good fight. Not tonight. Seems to me a lot of the team's checked out for the season, like the Saturday UMD game was the straw that broke the camel's back. I just hope as a member of the media and a newly minted Mav fan this season that they can have some respectability going into the playoffs.

I thought UAA's attendance was bad, but your arena looked really empty. Large sections of seating with nobody in them. How many does your arena hold, and what was the official attendance last night?

Verizon holds just over 5,000 and announced attendance was 3,247, the lowest WCHA game all season. The rescheduled UND/MSU Sunday "Snownami" Matinee even beat it. I think it's mainly two factors:
  1. MSU's on Spring Break, and the Student Section is a big part (I want to say students get 1,500 tickets) of the experience.
  2. Nothing against UAA, but it seems Mankato for the most part has given up on this squad this year. It was very apparent when the fans made a mass exodus during the 3rd Period of the Saturday UMD game a couple weeks back, combined with this team won't have a home playoff series.

Who knows, maybe Dora the Explorer will get the fans out tonight. Regardless of attendance, I do hope the fans show up tonight for Senior Night and salute the graduating seniors on their last home game as Mavericks.

Re: Minnesota State, Mankato, Season Thread

I would bet there weren't more than 2500 in the building last night. LOTS of no-shows. Attendance peaked a couple of years ago, and has been on a downward slide since.

Fans sense that the university simply doesn't care that the team is not competitive. Two or three years ago, there were lots of Mankato fans posting on here every week. Now there are almost none. No one had posted in this season thread for a couple of months. I'd rather they just shut the program down than just let it die a slow death from indifference.

I do have to share your sentiments Mavs. Shutting the program does seem a little extreme, IMO, but you're right. If MSU as a university cared about becoming competitive, Jutting would have been gone a long time ago. Nothing against Troy, he's a good interview/person and knows the game but it seems to me that this team and program has done all they can under Jutting's regime. The question is though, would MSU buy Jutting out, and where do they look for their next coach?
