Minnesota State Applies to the NCHC

Re: Minnesota State Applies to the NCHC

Do you officiate in your spare time? I'm sensing a vision problem. Might want to look again under the 2015-2016 results.
Oh, look at that, I missed the single moment of good hockey coming out of MTU in the past 40 years when they won something in a second rate conference. My most abject apologies, sir.

I don't agree. they might get 1 additional non con win, if they were a better team, but with the majority of the games vs the league, the majority of the wins would come that way too it seems to me.

CC just needs to win against anyone. Look at UNO last year as an example. Cleaned up out of conference which kept them in the playoff hunt to the final week or two. But they really struggled to win conference games. The only way for UNO to improve is with better in conference performance. But CC would improve by beating pretty much anybody either in or out of conference.

Thats true of course, but I don't see their out of conference competition getting weaker at all, so even if they are better, they might not get any more wins that way.
CC doesn't play Huntsville this year, and they only play 1 game vs AF that I can see. They have a much bigger advantage at home but they play the easiest teams on the schedule on the road: at UMass, then they have Lowell at home and they are @ BC and UNH and they have wisconsin at home. So i'm not seeing more wins though I do hope the beat the **** out of Wisconsin.

Re: Minnesota State Applies to the NCHC

It's been 41 years since Tech won it all. That was before I was even born. So I'm looking for the last time Tech won anything during my lifetime - conference regular season, conference tournament, or national tournament.

Still looking.

Still looking.

Hmmm... That's a long, long time of being a completely irrelevant program. Sure would suck to be Tech, hanging your hat on a time when disco and Motown ruled top 40 radio.

you could look at last year when we won the WCHA. or various GLIs. or the first Desert Classic.

just looked up the list of all 3 trophies St Cloud has won in their history. 1 McNaughton Cup. 1 NCHC Regulat Season title & 1 NCHC Payoff title. As for their NCAA appearances, it's kinda like a Vikings fan bragging about their Super Bowls. But they do have a nice collection of participation ribbons!

Actually they won the WCHA Playoff Title in 2001. So it's four.

When NCHC admits Kato and ASU, they'll be at ten. The next time they want to cherry pick more teams, I bet they start bouncing existing members. I think CC and Western will eventually get the axe in favor of the teams du jour. NCHC is based solely on profit and looking out for number 1....no loyalty.
When was the last time ANY school, in ANY sport got kicked out of ANY conference?

I guess a conference title is a conference title, but when your conference is so bad that even the regular season champs don't make the NCAA's it should probably only count for half.

And sorry, holiday tournaments don't count as winning "conference regular season, conference tournament, or national tournament".

I like watching quality, entertaining hockey where my team at least has a chance to take home some hardware every year. Maybe you like dusting off old VHS tapes of when your team was actually relevant. Since I started following SCSU in 2001, they are better than MTU and NMU in every measure. In the past 5 years the contrast is even more distinct.

MTU and NMU fans just can't seem to realize that St. Cloud did them a favor by leaving the WCHA. At least now they have a chance to win something.

What an idiot.

I like how you act like SCSU is head and shoulders above MTU based on what? The fact that SCSU won the regional game 2 years ago? One that required a crap ton of luck to get the tie and the winner in OT...yup, SCSU is god's gift to hockey right now compared to Michigan Tech...keep thinking that jackhole.

No, based on basically any objective measures. Trophies, wins, rankings, team stats, recruits. Prove me wrong. You Tech guys are so smart and I am just a dummy. Back up your argument that SCSU isn't head and shoulders above MTU.

14-15 you could make the argument that Tech was better than St. Cloud (even though we beat you when it counted.) That is probably the only year in the history of our program you could say that, though. Even in the worst year in our program's history 04-05 when we finished 9th in the WCHA, Tech was still worse than us and finished 10th. How can you guys even get mad? You have sucked so bad for so long. Mel is turning it around, but you still aren't better than St. Cloud and I don't know how you could even make the argument that you are.

Where have I said MTU is better than SCSU? All we're saying is MTU is not the crap program it was from 1996 (the last time MTU had a better W% than SCSU until last year) through the 2000s.
MTU has won over 70% of its games since since 2014. That's better than SCSU (at 64%). What does that mean? Probably not much but it makes it awfully hard for anyone to objectively say SCSU is head and shoulders above MTU since the creation of the NCHC.

Each team had a bunch of current players participate in NHL camps, SCSU 11, MTU 10. Yes, SCSU probably has more draft picks and more higher draft picks but that doesn't necessarily mean a better college player.

SCSU fans just can't seem to realize why they get hammered on message boards when they lob fact-less softballs like this day after day, week after week from their selective, recent history only memory banks...

Since the creation of the NCHC St. Cloud is 73-39-7= .642 winning percentage, Tech is 66-38-14 = .619 winning percentage. That is with the NCHC getting 10 at-large bids over that time with the WCHA getting 2. Which means a way harder schedule. St. Cloud has made the tournament all three years. Tech made it once. St. Cloud has two tournament wins. Tech has zero. St. Cloud has finished each of the past three seasons ranked in the top 10. Tech did once.

I am aware Tech is improved. Mel has done a good job. I still don't think they are on St. Cloud's level.

St Cloud is 54-28-5 against Tech all time.

I love the way a thread on MSU-M's application to the NCHC has degenerated into a debate between MTU and SCSU fans

Because Tech can't let it go that we did what was best for ourselves and left them behind and have they decided to remain completely butthurt over the formation of the NCHC....when...as it has been pointed out to them several times...the creation of the NCHC has actually benefited them. They also seem to be living under the delusion that if the offer had been extended to them...that their administration wouldn't have jumped all over it as I believe Kato is and BG will if things fall apart with ASU.
