Minnesota State 2024-25 Season: Together We Strand

I'm guessing St. Thomas twin cities location and piggy bank had a lot to do with this. Sadly I think if they had stuck it out with Auggie and them the conference would have been much improved. Jumping to the nchc might not be as great as they think.
It boils down to money and market, plain and simple. Know they're feeling pretty good after the improvement the past couple seasons but all you have to do is look at Miami to see that money and a new rink doesn't necessarily equal success.

NCHC conference travel is based primarily on commercial flights, less so on busses, except within MN and ND. Every team in that conference is close to an airport. Mankato in not.

Well if that were true then we would be in the nchc. Mankato has the second busiest airport in the state (take off and landings) next to MSP.
I get why MSU was left out at first but during our peak time there was no reason beyond $$$ to keep us out. The program is stable with good attendance.
I think what sucks is that with St.Thomas, Auggie, tech, BSU, MSU you could have built the ccha into something solid.

Wasn't aware of the traffic at 'kato airport. Do teams fly commercial or charter?

That's the one exception I can see....but apparently close enough.
Just checked Google maps...turns out that Miami U. in Oxford, Ohio is 48 mile from the Cincinnati airport, which is actually in KY. I also note that St. Cloud is 79 miles from the MSP airport, same as Mankato. I thought St. Cloud was an outer suburb. Bad geography on my part.

There's a pretty good Aviation major at the school (Sort of a running joke for Stunt Monkey and some of the mid-game promotions). I know they do a lot of simulator training, but I'm guessing a lot of actual flights. Wonder if that counts in the number of flights out of the airport.

Eisele is a grad transfer. He's probably considering options for his final year of eligibility. Unless there's a bunch of D-men that hit the portal, I'm not too worried.

I wish Eisele the best. He's been a warrior for us. But we do have some real offensive potential coming in this year with Pritchard and Kernan, so I feel better about losing a forward than I do a D-man.

Agreed, though I hope they get someone out of the portal to replace Pitlick's production.

Luc Wilson, Brett Moravec, Kade Neilsen, Sam Rice and Tyler Haskins join Eisele in the portal.

Wilson seemed to be in the doghouse more often than not coming down the stretch, so that's not super surprising.

Moravec leaving is a bummer. Had the potential to be a fan favorite being a Badger recruit that flipped. Seemed to never fully recover from whatever sidelined him freshman year.

The other three being fringe lineup players makes me hope that they were nudged to seek another opportunity because the coaching staff has a couple of things up their sleeves.

Love the portal or hate it, it keeps the offseason interesting.

Agreed. There's more reason to be optimistic than not.

Now if defensemen start showing up in the portal, I'd start worrying.

Eisele reunites with Paul Kirtland at Ohio State. Prett good landing spot for him and, since I'm pretty sure he already got his degree at Mankato, not a bad spot to start a Masters degree.
