Minnesota State 2024-25 Season: Together We Strand

I agree with everything you said to a T. We got lucky with the Pitlick transfer, but he almost has a "im too good for this team" complex when he scores and doesn't celebrate with the team. Its getting better, but I bet Strand said something to him after his first goal with the Mavs.

I'm an outsider and don't have any knowledge of the team chemistry, but it seems like the entire group has raised their game this season. Could it be because of the solid performance of the new guys, especially Pitlick? Tracy's great goaltending? Or simply buying in to Strand's coaching style & philosophy in his second year?

A rising tide floats all boats.

Also an outsider and can't/won't address chemistry issues, but from a hockey standpoint, the most obvious difference from last year is the D Corp and its ability to get the puck up the ice. Last year, we spent long stretches of the game in our own end. Not necessarily giving up a lot of Grade A chances, but just not able to get it out and start an attack. Much better this year. As someone else mentioned, #8 looks so much smoother and more confident with the puck. He's already matched last year's point total. Other D men, particularly #39, have shown a real skill for appropriately using physical play to separate their man from the puck. #13 looks better at both ends of the ice. #5 is +10 for the season. That ain't just luck or good teammates. And of course #17 has been everything we hoped he'd be.
Tracy has been great, no doubt, but we've also made his job easier.

Pittlick chemistry "issue" seems to be way overblown IMO. First time I saw it brought up was lurking GPL after his first goal vs Michigan where he just didn't break stride and did a bench flyby. A little different, maybe, but reading into his first game with the team that was broadcast on possibly the worst stream of the season seems a little overboard. Look at every other goal he's scored.

Tracey has given up three goals in the last two games, and has two losses for his efforts. Tonight he had 38 saves on 40 shots. He deserves better. Shut out two games in a row.

I'm concerned with our inability to score. Last night we ran into a goalie who made some unbelievable saves in addition to making every routine save he needed to. But other nights, that wasn't the case.

And yes, with the best goalie in the country, we should be a shoo in to make the tournament. Looks like we will need to win the conference playoffs and that means winning a one game series, and if we don't get going, that game could well be on the road. Fairly certain you need to score goal(s) to win games.

Hoping this turns itself around, tonight is the beginning of the rest of the season.

Well, they certainly broke out of the scoring slump tonight, but still sitting at #17 in the Pairwise; on the outside looking in. Going to have to get on a roll the rest of the way.

Looks like CCHA will only get one team in this season. With the non-conference games finished won't it be hard to move up? Wisconsin is sitting at #16 pairwise so they would get bumped by CCHA tournament winner. How is Augustana going to be seeded for CCHA tourney given they didn't play the same number of games as rest of conference?

Question for you stats nerds out there: When was the last time the Mavs were shut out six periods in succession? Thinking that goes back to the Jutting era. Any guesses?

Conference is doing points percentage for seeding. If Augustana ends up with the highest point percentage, they will be seeded number 1.

15-16 season, where we were great with possession, but terrible at scoring, we got shut out in 3 straight games, including a weekend in St. Cloud. That season was even more frustrating than this year because we were outshooting opponents by a million, but couldn't finish.
