Minnesota State 2024-25 Season: Together We Strand

Disappointed because all three losses seemed to be there for the taking, especially the last two Friday games, but a realist enough to know that 3-3 is still a pretty good place to be. Defense, goaltending and PK have all been solid. Offense and PP still needs to come around but I think there's been enough flashes to be somewhat optimistic. Looking at the rest of the league, no reason to not expect to be in the mix for the MacNaughton.

I hear you. Completely agree about the power play. What concerns me right now is that Eisele is the only natural center in the lineup and we're losing a lot of face offs as a result. Also wondering why Finn Williams hasn't seen the ice yet- he's supposed to bring some offense to this team (or at least that was my impression).

On the other hand, the defense looks better than last year- though I've only seen the Saturday Nodak game.

At the beginning of the season, I was saying if we went 5-3 in non conference, we would be off to a great start. I wanted a split with Michigan and North Dakota and a sweep of either Merrimack or Omaha, and a split with the other. That now requires a sweep of Omaha, who is going to very hungry after getting swept by Augustana. And don't overlook Augustana who is off to a great start.

And I fully expect to be in the mix for the MacNaughton.

Defense is good. You can count on that with Coach Strand. Faceoffs were hurt a little with Bohlsen's injury. Winning more of those would help with the power play. Murr, Wilson, and Luigi all have another gear I think we'll see soon. Looking forward to the year!

Good game last night. And just like last weekend a 5 minute power play led to a tie game. Omaha has a lot of speed and it cost them that an third period goal. But this defense is way better than last year's.

Face offs were much better. The Eisele-Groll-Pitlick line will be as good as any in the conference. Now we need to get Luc Wilson and Evan Murr contributing some points.

Unfortunately, the PP is putrid and needs a lot of work.

Mavs will head to Green Bay and face St. Norbert to open the second half. Honestly kind of like it, knock the rust off from break and gives a DIII team a marquee home game. Plus nobody really wants to go a home exhibition aside from maybe the under-18 team.

Assuming some of the younger guys will get much of the playing time, especially at the Goalie position. Need to see those other net minders perform. The down side is someone being injured in a meaningless game. wonder if St. Norbert will webcast this contest?

Good game last night. They even scored on the power play- such as it was. This team's identity seems to be defense and goaltending. Not really what I was hoping for- but if they can stack some wins- what the hey.

Great sweep to cap off nonconf play. Now hopefully use the last away series at Bemidji as some motivation and start the conference slate with a sweep.

Side note: Thanks to the rest of the CCHA for all the Pairwise help! Or not..

Agreed. I thought they'd come out of the gate better than that. Outshot by 20, ineffective power play. Tracy was the lone highlight.

A lot more heart tonight. Were able to overcome some adversity and another good Sholl outing. Really hope the Eisele outlook it good, could tell that were thin at center. Love Groll, but I don't want him taking draws with the game on the line.

Doesn't look like Eisele will be available this weekend, and neither will Bohlson and Finn Williams. They're going to need some greasy goals to get the offense moving and the Tommie's goalies won't make that easy.

Eisele played. Nice comeback win.

Having Eisele available was obviously huge. Good to see that.

I'm still concerned about the propensity for slow starts though. They looked really slow and tentative through the neutral zone most of the night.
