Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

Question for UNO fans: I watched some of the goal highlights on the UNO website. It looked like the UNO goalie(s) seemed to let in a couple soft goals every weekend. Is that the case or did I just happen to see some goofy plays?

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

Faulkner has let in a bunch that he should have had. Massa doesn't let in quite as many of those, UNO has a knack for a defensive end turnover on clearing attempts that cause problems.

Massa is the starter at the moment correct? UNO has had a never ending goalie rotation this season for the sound of it.

Substitute Minnesota for UNO and it is the same problem. Killed the Gophers in DU a couple weekends back.

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

Yes, you will see him Friday and probably Saturday, although if he gets pulled, or Coach starts another goaltender, it could be Faulkner or Belfour.

And we have another goalie coming next year. Look for Bergman to bolt this summer. Look for another CFB call this weekend leaving us short handed. After reading that Massa got some instruction from Patrick Roy when he was younger I think he's going to work out better than expected. PH was right, plenty of good food within a mile of the arena. Parking lots will be crowded.

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

We have now, what I am pretty sure, is an all time first since UNO moved into the Qwest Center, now the Centurylink Center.

Th "Clink" is curtained off for home games in the upper level on the side of the arena the benches are on, and, the upper level end of the arena with the goal that UNO attacks once per game.

For the first time since they began curtaining off those sections in the upper level, at least one of the curtains is coming down Saturday night. There was a time when they didn't curtain off the upper deck at all after UNO moved in there and, once they starting doing it, the only time they have had them down (all) has been for the three "Sell Out" this-or-that-team promotion these past three seasons.

That would mean that ticket sales for Saturday night have to be approaching the 12,000 mark. Or, to put it another way, maybe the 4th largest crowd in school history. We'll see.

As near as I recall, the only other time we got close to having to do this before was the Friday night game when the Fighting Sioux were here, the very first time they had ever come to Omaha and played us, last year. The next night, which normally would have been a bigger crowd than that, the Huskers played a night game at Texas A & M and the cretins that stayed home to watch that missed UNO shutting out ND 1-0 on a goal, literally, at the final horn.

Tickets are now for sale on Ticketmaster in the upper level on the other end of the arena. I find it sort of odd that they would not have opened up the other side, instead, since those are better seats, and, higher priced.

My guess is we'll be seeing a lot of maroon & gold this weekend.

What is the school record for attendance?

This couldn't possibly be true. Just ask UND, UW, and UMD fans. They all say Gopher fans don't travel well.

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

What is the school record for attendance?

#1. 16,138 for Minnesota-Duluth on 1-13-12

#2. 15,137 for Wisconsin on 2-11-11

#3. 13,417 for Ohio State on 2-5-10

The building seats 16,680 for hockey, despite any other published number you may have seen.

Officially its 16,138 set earlier this year against Duluth.

Should be some fast paced hockey (at least I hope). More opposing fans usually means our crowd wakes up a little so I am all for you guys trying to spell your school. The Sioux games were noisy and I expect the same tonight. 6 hrs till faceoff and I am stuck at work with a major case of the phuckits. Cmon 5pm!!

GO MAVERICKS!!

Weird. Big Ten teams draw higher attendance on the road than most other games?

This is because these three games were part of the Sell Out this-or-that team promotion the last three seasons running. You'll note that they are consecutive years, all about the same time of the season. All the other "big" crowd games not part of those nights are in the 11,000 to 12,000 range against, I believe, Michigan (more than once, I think), North Dakota, and maybe a couple more. I'll have to research it.

Obviously UMD travels better because when they came to down they set a school record ;)

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

Just read UNO will be announcing plans to build a new 8,000 seat arena in the next few months.

Congrats :)

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

Just off work and god I hope you are lying. 8,000 is too small. Well i enjoyed the decent ticket prices while they lasted.

I assume you are referring to Coach Blais comments in the Tribune today?

Coach Blais did not say an 8000 seat arena, the writer did. Blais just said an arena without specifying any particular size.

Most observers here would tell you it is unlikely UNO builds anything that small.

Every fan I have talked to around here about this topic around here would have a conniption if they built a rink that small.

UNO has averaged more fans than that on an yearly basis for 8 of the 15 years of the program! Your Tribune hockey blogger does not have all the facts on this one.
