Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

You people need to do what I did after the 2007 West Regional: drive back to Minneapolis from Denver overnight. You can't see ANYTHING!

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

This point is oft overlooked.

This is like the 3rd week in a row we've seen that clip. Pointed out the Gopher wins in the movie every time. Yet it still comes.
i think they played something at the arena in St. Cloud too. Weird.

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

Best not to SKIP this series. It could be a WILD one. I think if the Gophers DRAW TWO wins this weekend, it would REVERSE the Negative Nancies' opinions about this team. Even better if we could DRAW FOUR WILD points!

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

Split.

ROAD TRIP TO OMAHA WITH 6 GOPHER FANS PILED INTO ONE SUBURBAN STARTS FRIDAY MORNING!!!

So excited!!

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

Worst drive ever? It's six freaking hours, seriously? Man, I hope your team has as many sissies as your fans. Try driving across Kansas sometime.

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

Not done to the Mavs, at home, by anybody in Coach Blais tenure and not since Notre Dame did it 3 years ago this week.

It is tough to sweep anyone on the road in the WCHA, you are correct that the odds are stacked against the Gophers sweeping this weekend. I would be happy to just win on a Friday night for a change and go into Saturday's game with points in the "bank" and see what happens.

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

And on a different note...I recall as UNO fans were leaving Minneapolis last year after sweeping the Gophers, the local talk radio folks were all over Lucia. Fans were calling for his head and that there was NO way he was coming back. I assume that is not the feeling anymore?

In addition to ignoring our organist, please ignore 80% of our fans that will show up this weekend. You'll notice who they are when they are prompted to get up and get loud by the scoreboard. In fact, that will be one of the only times you need to worry about the noise level. Just tell the scoreboard operator to not put that up and you'll have a pretty dead building....

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

This thread title is more an insult to Southern Minnesota and Iowa. You'll barely go into Nebraska during the drive :p

I think just about anything is possible this weekend on the ice. My suspicion is that we might see some high scoring, wild games.

That said, there will be big crowds for both games. Saturday night has the best advance sale I have ever seen for any night not named "Sell Out............" this or that. Either Gopher fan is descending in a major way or their appearance is arousing a UNO hockey fever pitch around here.

Word has it that instead of heaving a fish on the ice this weekend we'll be throwing lutefisk instead. Plus, lefsa makes a nice frisbee, especially the way my wife makes it, so, that is definitely another must-have projectile as well. And, all the restaurants in the area around the Clink have added "lingonberry crisp" to their dessert menus in honor of your appearance. Y'all should be right at home.

You'll also have fans pounding on the glass for such momentous occasions as... icing. Or yelling "Hand pass!" any time the puck hits a Gopher glove.

I've done roughly 1/2 the drive in the dark. It's not much better.

Exactly, but most are too stupid to figure that out.

It isn't how long the drive is, it is what's inbetween. Also, your destination isn't Denver or somewhere else in the mountains, it's effing Omaha. Yippee.

Everyone feel free to keep stressing about a stupid thread title, though. Somewhat amusing.

In fact, the biggest problem with going to UNO games is the entire game day experience, or, lack thereof.

No skating cheerleaders. A Pep band that rarely shows and when they do, they hardly play. A "student section" that does not show unless for marquee opponents. An "organist" that should be ashamed to be described as such. Ridiculous, inane, feeble-minded, not thinking-outside-the-box, made for the lowest common denominator, between-periods "entertainment". Pump-up pregame take-the-ice video that, if it wasn't horrible enough already, they've actually had to make it even worse each of the last two seasons. I have never gone to a hockey game anywhere else where there were more kids in a building not paying any attention to the game than right here in Omaha followed closely by gum chewing chicks of all ages with a phone glued to their ear.

That said, I do like "find Taco Girl". That IS hilarious. They just need to make it more salacious and make it harder to find her. That bit is pretty new-people. So is the 3rd period "Unleash the Fury" take-the-ice video as well as the music that is played in the arena. Bright spots in an otherwise sorry offering--other than the hockey.

The game day experience has actually gone downhill the past two seasons, not up. Good thing the hockey has been pretty good because most of the rest of it is an utter embarrassment to the school. Considering that Trev has made UNO Hockey the school's showcase revenue sport, he ought to start treating it as such where the fans are concerned.

I'd be interested in some commentary about this from Gopher fans after this weekend if they were here.

At least we can drink in our building.
