Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.
In addition to ignoring our organist, please ignore 80% of our fans that will show up this weekend. You'll notice who they are when they are prompted to get up and get loud by the scoreboard. In fact, that will be one of the only times you need to worry about the noise level. Just tell the scoreboard operator to not put that up and you'll have a pretty dead building....
In fact, the biggest problem with going to UNO games is the entire game day experience, or, lack thereof.
No skating cheerleaders. A Pep band that rarely shows and when they do, they hardly play. A "student section" that does not show unless for marquee opponents. An "organist" that should be ashamed to be described as such. Ridiculous, inane, feeble-minded, not thinking-outside-the-box, made for the lowest common denominator, between-periods "entertainment". Pump-up pregame take-the-ice video that, if it wasn't horrible enough already, they've actually had to make it even worse
each of the last two seasons. I have never gone to a hockey game anywhere else where there were more kids in a building not paying
any attention to the game than right here in Omaha followed closely by gum chewing chicks of all ages with a phone glued to their ear.
That said, I do like "find Taco Girl". That IS hilarious. They just need to make it more salacious and make it harder to find her. That bit is pretty new-people. So is the 3rd period "Unleash the Fury" take-the-ice video as well as the music that is played in the arena. Bright spots in an otherwise sorry offering--other than the hockey.
The game day experience has actually gone downhill the past two seasons, not up. Good thing the hockey has been pretty good because most of the rest of it is an utter embarrassment to the school. Considering that Trev has made UNO Hockey the school's showcase revenue sport, he ought to start treating it as such where the fans are concerned.
I'd be interested in some commentary about this from Gopher fans after this weekend if they were here.
At least we can drink in our building.
