Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

Better team didn't win tonight.
UNO pretty thoroughly outplayed MN. Fortunately for the Gophers, Patterson bailed them out a number of times, and they managed to generate a couple powerplay goals (although that SHG against was brutal with that horrid pass by Holl on the blueline).

Pretty simple now: two points for MN against UW = #1 seed in the playoffs.

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

He said he liked the entire atmosphere at our games as he pronounced it "NHL-like" and, to him, that was a breath of fresh air and a nice change of pace from the collegiate atmosphere, which is ironic since the lack of that is what I, personally, think is wrong with our "game experience".

OMG, this is the first thing that I have ever agreed with you on. College Hockey should have the college atmosphere about it. IMO the college experience should be cherished, as if you keep playing after college you're not gonna get it any more. If you stop playing after college why would you even want a "NHL-like" experience? You're playing Hockey in college because you like it and you want to college experience, it's much more intimate at the collegiate level.

You may disagree with this but I think that Yost is the best-rink to play in at college. Sure it isn't state of the art or anything but the fans are basically right on top of the ice. Every Michigan player that I have ever talked to has told me that the atmosphere at Yost is what sold them on the program. There is nothing like it, and even when players like Turco, Morrison, Nystrom, etc. who have substantial NHL careers come back to Yost for a game they all tell me that even with all of the bells & whistles of the NHL-game there is no better feeling than that of playing at Yost.

Heck, Steven Kampher (who won the Stanely Cup with Boston recently) brought the Cup with him to Yost on his day with the Cup.

I applaud you for your view Red Cows. Advocate to get more college in the UNO college hockey games!

Clearly the refs didn't get the memo when they (correctly) disallowed the Rau goal.

So, Yost is the best arena in college hockey because ex-Michigan players say it is? Got it

Grudging respect to the Gophers for sweeping this weekend although I still don't think that you guys are meaningfully a much better team than we are. Both games could have gone either way, really. C'est la vie.

One team is sitting in first place, is likely in the NCAA field, and just won two games in your rink (I don't expect the Gophers to blow teams out in their rink so whether a game could have gone either way doesn't matter to me. Just win). Maybe those differences over the course of the season aren't "meaningfully" better to you but I think most would say otherwise.

Man, I've seen a few in this thread saying that the better team didn't win and that MN got outplayed. As I was watching Saturday night I must have heard "that's why they are at the top of the WCHA" at least five times, and I agree. The Gophers might not have looked on top of their game, but UNO had zero opportunities after midway through the 2nd period. We happened to capitalize on a turnover and score shorthanded, but MN didn't allow ANY rebound opportunities. I was thoroughly impressed with the Gophers defense. And I would just prefer that we played five-on-five because we looked like we had a man down whenever we were on the PP. Another reason the Gophers are as good as they are.

And how Walters was not penalized for his hit on Rau after the penalty was called is beyond me. That dude cross-checked Rau halfway across the zone. I saw him leaving the ice and assumed he was kicked out...but then again those refs were horrific. Particularly liked the icing call on UNO, when the ref looks at Dean who yells that his guy beat the MN guy to the dot, and the ref magically gives us the faceoff in the MN zone. Nice work.

If we could get a guy to sharpen the skates well, that'd be great too. Dudes were losing their edge every other shift.

Oh, and UMICH - it's entirely possible we will get more college atmosphere at UNO games as we are supposedly announcing a new on campus arena. We've heard that it would happen since Dean has been here, but it appears that it's finally picking up serious steam.

Great weekend of hockey for both teams. Obviously it was more successful for the Gophers being able to leave with a sweep but UNO is a good team and they played the Gophers really tough. I wanted to see the cup last night but here's to hoping we see it on Friday at Mariucci.

Very impressed by UNO fans. We had a blast in Omaha and the fans were great to our group of six young guys. We had one run-in each night with some ******rs, but the guy last night was gone after the first intermission....maybe he passed out and got the boot LOL! But we had multiple UNO fans come talk to us during the intermissions by the Budweiser beer garden. All were friendly and hoped we were enjoying our time in Omaha, which we did! So I just wanted to say thanks to UNO and their fans for a great weekend in Omaha! We had a blast!

Did you read it. I added 16.6% just for you. And then you call me a drunk. *sigh*

You seem to be assuming I view drunks negatively.

And thanks for the 16.6%. I was hoping for 16.7%, but this is nice.

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

That was a fun weekend outside of the outcomes. I dont like leaving the CLink mad twice in one weekend:cool:

Gopher fans added to the atmosphere and kinna woke the place up. I'm glad our drummers were there to keep a coordinated chant after goldy goals from really taking off.

Maybe catch you guys again at the X.

Re: Minnesota @ Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 24-25: Worst. Drive. EVER.

Mariucci, Kohl, and Ralph are the three best i've experienced. I have yet to visit Amsoil, and im sure its a great atmosphere. (ive been to Yost)

Amsoil is meh. MacInness (MTU) has more atmosphere. In general, the smaller/less corporate the arena, the better the atmosphere. The fans can be louder, get away with a little more hostility (not obscenities, but more liveliness and innuendo), etc. The Mecca/REA/Amsoil......lotta corpies. When it's loud it's loud, but it's less continuity of loudness, if you get what I am saying. Even SCSU, as crappy an arena as it is, has more atmosphere than the major schools.

I love the old barn atmosphere
