Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

Re: Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

Remember that game against Duluth where every shot to the top shelf went in? The opposite happened last night. Hit the net and that game potentially turns into a rout. I hope they don't panic and try to change things too much. I know the coaches won't, but this team being so young worries me with stuff like that.

You mean they didn't have "puck luck" yesterday????

Re: Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

Shootouts are a joke and handing out an extra point for them is even worse, I would feel the same even if the Gophers had gotten the extra point.

Then for the announcers to say that MSU won, hysterical... they tied.

If the Gophers can get up by 2 goals today MSU doesn't seem to have the horses to keep up, Gophers will grab 3pts today.

I can't imagine that they will change too much. The Gophers played a heck of a game, especially considering the small sheet and normally defensive minded Spartans. I really enjoyed their intensity and could not believe that they didn't net a few more. Not to discount Sparty, they were pretty good. We were quite a bit better , for the most part.

That's a bit arrogant considering the only thing you were better at was SOG. The game was a tie, Sparty played a cautious game because they realize the disparity in talent. Their goaltender was outstanding and stole the extra point with the SOW. That is how hockey is, though. Sometimes the better team doesn't win because it was either equally played or outplayed.

Hardly. Puck possession, offensive zone time, special teams play, to name just a few. The Gophers controlled a vast majority of that game. They just didn't capitalize. Credit to Sparty to blocking a bunch of shots, clogging the front of their net, and taking advantage of their few quality looks.

Same type of game so far today, and it's 2-0 Gophers thru one period. I'm all for crediting an opponent, but let's not blow sunshine here. Sparty stole that tie last night, then earned the shootout win.

Agree whole heartedly on your comment on that being how hockey is though. Nothing we can do but tip our hat to Sparty and try and do a better job of converting today.

No arrogance intended ( it just comes naturally?? ) My points were that I think the Gopher coaches should not tinker too much because I think we played pretty good in a place and on a rink size on which we have not always done our best. I honestly think that we were clearly better in most aspects of the game. I did mention that the Spartans are pretty good. That being said, if the Gophers don't come away with 3 points tonight, the trip to Michigan will be a faliure.
Now, you just unbunch those green & white undies and sit down for (hopefully) another great hockey game.

Agreed. The Spartans did a great job of playing to their strengths in certain areas. They absolutely deserve credit for that. Hard to watch that game last night and not say the Gophers didn't carry play a majority of it though.

Are we finally getting posters from other B1G teams with a little fight in them? Need that for a rivalry.

:)

4 out of 6 on the road. Pretty lukewarm about it. Glad to get out of there though. Doesn't matter what the Gophers do, they just can't seem to put any distance between them and Sparty.

FWIW I'm pretty sure Streaker is a Michigan fan.

4pts on the road, we'll take that.

The Gophers had a great 1st half of the season, time to rest up and get ready for the 2nd half grind.

I know a bunch of people who would gladly stand in for other B1G fans when they play the gophs. Just until they build up a little hate and can walk on their own.

Great effort by the Gophers today.

Think they're passing out a few ice packs in the Spartan locker room?

He said it was just a bit arrogant, so I think you need to step it up a bit to get to standard tArrogance levels for the Gophers. :D

Gophers actually deserved at least a point more. I liked what I saw all weekend, especially for about 95% of the game today. But couldof, shouldof scored twice the goals we did. MSU's D did a great job of blocking shots, but not much else as the Gophers pretty much had their way in the O zone, passing the puck around like it was a PP for much of the game. Kudos also go to Hildebrand, who did all he could to keep his team in it.

Yes, really, did anyone reading this realistically think that this team would be where it is at this stage of the season? We knew there was a lot of incoming talent, and that it would be lots of fun watching them develop, but it's safe to say I think that most honest observers did not believe this very young team would jell as quickly as they have.

No doubt it will be very difficult to improve on the first half record-wise, but if they're able to build on what they've accomplished so far by making steady improvements in all the areas that matter they should be in very good shape by the time playoffs roll around in March.

Re: Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

They mentioned each night how good MSU is traditionally at Munn, and while their early season record may not be stellar I did not think they would be an easy out this weekend. It wasn't perfect for the Gophers as far as how they played, but 4/6 aint bad at all.

The Gophers didn't deserve more than they got imho so long as the SO is in play. Maybe they carried play more than not, but if you don't take advantage of that it often leads to a T or L as Friday proved. I liked that they got 3 'dirty' goals today because some games that's how you have to score.

iirc early thoughts on Anastos weren't all that positive, but he still has Freshman recruited by Comley and they should get better. Good luck to them when not playing UM. I like that they play hard and physical but not chippy and their D didn't have a conniption just because a UM player came near their G.

I know I didn't. I didn't think this team would drop off much offensively, but I did think they would struggle defensively more because of the youth at forward and working in two freshman defenders.

Couldn't have realistically asked for a better start.

Agreed. Sparty never let up, and they should be credited for that. They have some nice young talent on that team.
