Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

Don't know for sure... last I saw was a couple minutes left in the second, the Gophers had 61 attempted shots.

Sixty-one....a million....same difference :p:)

Felt like a million. Sparty sure loves collapsing around their net. Reminds me of games against BSU in years past.

Re: Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

I havn't paid any attention to the new Big 10 rules and I gotta say that the shootout is stupid. Too few league games to be awarding points for that nonsense.

Re: Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

The good news both teams get one point and the shoot out win doesn't effect the pair wise.

Re: Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

So how come the updated Big10 standings USCHO shows both teams received 1 point?

Gophersports.com and Bigten.com are not updated yet.

This is one of those situations where we don't really know how the weekend turned out yet. It could well be a good weekend or a bad one.

My point is that the USCHO standings have been updated including this game and they gave both teams 1 point. Sparty did not get 2.

Re: Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

This was good entertaining college hockey game tonight that showcased some of the best freshman scoring talent in the NCAA. Freshman Justin Kloos was the star of the game for the Gophers with a G and A in possibly his best game of the season. He was fast, smart and peppered Hilde with a huge 7 SOG. But MSU came back each time the Gophers took the lead with their own phenom freshmen tandem of Haag and MacEachern to tie it up 2-2 at the end of regulation. Kyle Rau, who needs only one pt. to join an elite group with 100 career Gopher pts., almost sealed the W for the Gophers, but hit the pipe with .25 sec. left in regulation.

Overall, the Gophers dominated and outplayed Sparty and was determined to go to the net tonight with variety of shot selections from all angles. The shot fest tonight saw both teams shelling the opposing goalies with the Gophers blasting Hildebrand with 46 SOG (MSU/33) on 91 attempts and MSU fired a huge 95 shot attempts (186 shot attempts!). But Hildebrand came up big for Sparty tonight, moved extremely well in the crease and shutdown a consistently strong Gopher offensive game with some stellar saves. Wilcox countered with some big saves of his own in regulation and in a scoreless OT.

A very positive note was the Gopher PP looked the best it’s looked all season with one PPG, and showed awesome puck movement and shot selection, but MSU put bodies in front and blocked a ton of shots. EDIT: Blocked shots: Sparty/24, Gophers/5.

Ok I'll admit it, I'm a closet fan of shootouts going back to my days in the ECHL simply because I was frickin’ unstoppable!!;) Tonight MSU got the shootout break on a nice deke by Ferrantino to slip the puck under Wilcox to win the first ever B1G shootout session for both teams. Officially the game goes down as a tie in B1G play (MSU/2 pts., Gophers/1 pt). MSU is a team with a lot of upside and hopefully the Gophers can rest up and come back tomorrow night with fresh legs to take home a W. Go Gophers! Rah! :)

Because the USCHO site is wrong. From the B1G website:

Big Ten standings will be awarded as follows: three points for a regulation or overtime win, two points for a shootout win, one point for a shootout loss and no points for a regulation or overtime loss.

Update on Parenteau's injury...he's undergoing xrays and tDon thinks it might be "awhile" before he returns to the lineup (broken bone??). A huge loss IMO, as Parenteau always seems to give 100% effort and plays lights out physical D every game.

Re: Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

That was certainly the best game I've seen out of this team all season.

Tomorrow I see two possibilities: MSU plays it close again and wins or we have another tie. The other is that we blew all of our emotion and energy tonight and will get blown out tomorrow. With some more accurate shooting you guys could've put up about 6 tonight I think, even with how great Hildebrand was playing. Nonetheless I'll take a tie against #1 and a shoot-out win.

The gophers had a great game plan going in tonight I think fans with heartbeats threw them off, knowing the Lucia staff though fool me once.....

Re: Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

Funny seeing Whioux fans talk about heartbeats knowing they've got a sockpuppet for a coach with the personality of a breadstick.:D

Re: Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

X-ray for Parenteau? That didn't look like a play to break a bone. Looked like maybe he twisted his leg as the MSU guy came down. I was expecting a knee. Hope he can recover this year.

They didn't sweep. To me, that is not a good weekend.

The Spartans played very well and their goalie got them an extra point with a great game. Congrats.

Hope Jake is OK and Ben can step in and play better this afternoon than he has recently. I will have to DVR the game and watch it later due to other commitments, which makes me sad. I could start the game, but have to leave before it's done.

Re: Minnesota @ Michigan State: 12/6 & 12/7

Remember that game against Duluth where every shot to the top shelf went in? The opposite happened last night. Hit the net and that game potentially turns into a rout. I hope they don't panic and try to change things too much. I know the coaches won't, but this team being so young worries me with stuff like that.
